GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Director, Business Analytics is responsible for leading the Business Analytics function. This team, in partnership with other cross-functional data, reporting, and analytical resources, is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive Business Analytics strategy for the Credit Union. This individual must possess a high level of data literacy, business acumen, creativity, and a drive to deliver valuable data-driven insights. The Director, Business Analytics is responsible for establishing and maintaining standards and best practices that enable effective use of data assets to answer critical business questions and support achievement of strategic outcomes.
TASKS, DUTIES, FUNCTIONS:
- Lead the Business Analytics function, which is focused on delivery of data-driven insights and decision support for business unit leadership. This includes delivery channel analytics, regulatory/compliance analytics, voice of the member/experience analytics as well as recurring and ad hoc support for functional areas (Marketing, HR, Operations, etc.) as needed.
- Effectively leverage descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytical approaches and tools to deliver valuable business insights that support achievement of the Credit Union's Mission and Strategic Goals.
- Effectively communicate and present complex data findings and insights to various stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain strong collaborative working relationships cross-functionally that support iterative delivery of dynamic enterprise Business Analytics solutions.
- Foster a constructive working relationship with technical counterparts responsible for data management/engineering activities (i.e. Enterprise Data Warehouse Team).
- Collaborate closely with business partners and resources assigned to manage data solution requests to ensure appropriate scoping, resource allocations, and timelines are identified to effectively deliver solutions.
- Provide technical and subject matter expertise with regard to the Credit Union's data and data tools available for analysis and reporting.
- Champion enterprise data governance practices to ensure optimal value is derived from data assets of the Credit Union.
- Maintain expert level proficiency in relevant data manipulation and visualization tools (e.g. R, SAS Enterprise Guide, Python, PowerBI, Excel, etc.), as well as working knowledge of platforms used for analytical model development and deployment.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the Credit Union's data and source systems to understand capabilities and opportunities in the data.
- Foster a positive work environment for each team member; promote skill development, coach for improvement and growth, inspire others through your words and actions, ensure positive employee morale throughout Golden 1, and embrace our mission, vision, and core values.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of state and federal laws and regulations related to credit union compliance including bank secrecy and anti-money laundering laws appropriate to the position.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
PHYSICAL SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXERTION UTILIZED IN THE PERFORMANCE OF THESE TASKS:
- Effective oral and written communication skills required to interact with credit union staff, management, and all member channels.
- Must possess sufficient manual dexterity to skillfully operate an on-line computer terminal and other standard office equipment, such as financial calculators, personal computer, facsimile machine, and telephone.
ORGANIZATIONAL CONTACTS & RELATIONSHIPS:
- INTERNAL: All levels of staff and management.
- EXTERNAL: Members, credit reporting agencies, branches, Business Contacts, vendors, and others as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in related field (Business Administration, Information Technology, Computer Science, or similar degree with quantitative/analytical focus). Advanced degree is highly desired.
- EXPERIENCE: 7+ years experience leveraging data and advanced data tools to deliver valuable business insights. 5+ years direct supervisory/management experience in an analytical and/or business reporting capacity. Financial institution experience is highly desired.
- KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage complex timelines and dynamically shift priorities based on business need.
- Team building, effective communication, and collaboration.
- Maintain and keep current knowledge of financial industry products and operations, plus the regulations, and policy surrounding these products.
- Leadership abilities. Able to motivate and inspire.
- Proven ability to produce analysis and business presentations/proposals.
- Ability to translate analysis into concise and insightful summaries or presentations to support strategic discussion and decision making.
- Strong understanding of financial services processes, operational guidelines, risk management, and compliance.
- Technical subject matter expertise and ability to effectively leverage data tools such as R, SAS Enterprise Guide, Python, or other data visualization (PowerBI, Excel, etc.), mining, or programming tools.
- Working knowledge of model lifecycle management and ability to develop, implement, and maintain data/analytical models.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged sitting throughout the workday with occasional mobility required.
- Corrected vision within the normal range.
- Hearing within normal range. A device to enhance hearing will be provided if needed.
- Occasional movements throughout the department daily to interact with staff, accomplish tasks, etc.
- Unusually long or inconsistent hours may be required to accomplish tasks.
- Travel may be needed to accomplish tasks. Overnight travel is sometimes necessary. Occasional weekend and evening schedules required.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Preferred: Data Analytics Certification like: Certified Analytics Professional (CAP), IBM Data Science Professional Certificate, Datacamp Analyst Certification, Microsoft Data Analyst Associate Certification, SQL Certification, or other graduate work in the fields of finance, business intelligence or data analytics.
