Hello Sunshine is a media brand and content company dedicated to female authorship and storytelling across all platforms. Hello Sunshine is producing feature films, television shows as well as unscripted series, audio storytelling and social series under the Hello Sunshine brand. It is also the home for Reese’s Book Club, a fast-growing social book club in reach and influence. Hello Sunshine is seeking a highly talented, experienced and versatile Controller to build and oversee the day-to-day activities of our accounting team. In this role, reporting directly to Hello Sunshine’s Senior Vice President of Finance, you will partner closely with the management team and play a key role for the accounting operations of our rapidly growing company. You must be a hands-on, roll up your sleeves type of manager and should enjoy a fast-paced, start-up like environment. You will be responsible for providing technical accounting expertise, improvement of financial processes and development of a high performing accounting team. The ideal candidate is an energized, detail-oriented, process minded individual with deep knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. She/he should possess an enthusiasm to join at the ground level in a highly passionate, fast-paced and execution- oriented organization.

What You Will Do
  • Provide strong accounting and financial leadership to ensure the integrity of the financial statements and conformance with standard GAAP accounting.
  • Lead an effective monthly/quarterly/annual closing processes and provide analysis that fosters a deeper understanding of the business that impacts future performance.
  • Develop, manage, mentor, and build a world-class accounting team to effectively accomplish the departments goals and objectives.
  • Assist in establishing short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Assess control environment through review of control activities; identify and concentrate on improvement opportunities in key, high risk areas.
  • Provide recommendations for new products to improve operational effectiveness and lead system implementations including ERP systems.
  • Maintain strong internal control, manage financial audits, and serve as the main point of contact with external auditors.
  • Manage execution and successful completion of the year-end audit.
  • Oversee accounting, compliance, and tax matters for all subsidiaries.
  • Advise finance leadership and FP&A team on material customer contract terms, revenue recognition policies and timing, and other technical accounting matters to support budgeting and forecasting.
  • Partner with FP&A team to support cash and GAAP forecasting, budgeting, and reporting, providing “big picture” analytical and strategic insight to drive the architecture of accounting systems, processes, and procedures to support these functions.
  • Preparation of operational and ad hoc reporting as required

Requirements

  • BS/BA in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline with 10+ years of relevant work experience in progressive senior roles.
  • CPA license (active).
  • Ideal experience working in public accounting; entertainment industry; startup environments.
  • Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley Act is a plus.
  • Deep working technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and key principles of application for a wide array of finance and accounting areas.
  • Detail oriented with superior organization and excellent analytical skills.
  • Experience working in mid-market ERP (Intacct, Netsuite).
  • Demonstrated history of leading, building, and managing highly effective teams
  • Impactful business partner with strong communications and presentation skills able to effectively collaborate across departments and build trusted relationships
  • Advanced Excel skills with experience working with popular startup/early-stage solutions

Compensation band: $180,000 - $225,000
