Job Summary
The Public Relations Specialist is responsible for supporting and enhancing RWJBarnabas Health's public relations and media program to elevate the systems brand and overall reputation.Through collaboration with all corporate departments, inpatient and outpatient facilities and service line partners, this position will support and develop topics and newsworthy items about the system, its executives, programs, events, and scientific and clinical advancements through the strategic development and execution of tactics including but not limited to press releases, media advisories, media pitches, blogs, award and conference submissions and executive communications.
Essential Job Functions
- The Specialist will also provide guidance for and oversee appropriate content sharing across all communication platforms including social media channels, website and the bridge.
- Work in close connection with the internal communications department and support information sharing and coordinate dissemination of communication messaging.
- Maintain updated and active media contact lists, update FullIntel PR suite database management system, maintain departmental events calendar, write and pitch press releases, blogs and news stories as necessary, assist in the development and coordination of special events, and other projects as assigned.
- Works with both internal and external parties to initiate, organize and conclude these projects.
- Provides overall support to the department assisting with all aspects of media relations including compiling information, creating materials for media kits and releases, manages Media subscriptions for the department, etc.
- Writes, proofreads, edits, and distributes public relations materials including press releases, media alerts, wire releases, etc. as well as writes copies for video shoots.
- Writes and maintains material for the RWJBarnabas Health website, newsletter, magazine and social media content including writing strategic messaging and talking points.
- Assists with planning and staffing specials events, which includes being onsite at events to help coordinate event, take pictures, as well as schedule and handle onsite management of photos and videos coordination of visual communications, speak with reporters, conduct interviews, etc.
- Actively participates in all team meetings and service line calls as well as arranges and/or conducts interviews with Corporate executives, physicians and patients via phone, zoom, and in person.
- Maintains data and reporting for the department including updating and maintaining media contact lists for RWJBarnabas Health Corporate and affiliates, maintains PR Newswire account, FullIntel Media report lists, and database, working with all communications members to access platform and reports, and places project requests for department into Workfront.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in communications, public relations, journalism or in a related field required or equivalent experience.
- Three (3) years of experience in media relations, public relations or a related field required.
- Working knowledge of healthcare media relations or public relations preferred.
- Experience and demonstrated track record of working with members of the media highly desirable.
- Must possess strong writing, proof-reading and fact checking skills.
- Ability to set priorities, manage multiple projects simultaneously with good follow through is essential.
- Outstanding interpersonal communication and leadership skills, creativity and the ability to function in a team environment required.
