Having just opened its fourth, but certainly not last location, this dynamic new brand where
fresh food, cooked on the premises, and hospitality are key ingredients, Cornbread is
ready for the next level. We are poised for growth, and we want our Director of Operations
(DO) to grow with us. Our flagship store is in Brooklyn, near the Brooklyn Museum.
Other locations, including our newest in Montclair, NJ, are in Maplewood and Newark, NJ.
Going forward, New York City will be a focus for growth.
The DO will directly report the company CEO. Store General Managers
will report directly to the DO. The salary range for this position is $125,000 to $150,000 per year.

The Director of Operations is one of the most important leaders of the organization and
thus must be of great character. We expect the DO to work hard, be creative, work well
with others, and lead by example in order to drive revenues, manage prime costs and instill
our desired culture across the brand. The DO must further be oriented to
Marketing and Operations. We expect the DO to work well with others, be a mentor to his
or her staff, exhibit creativity, and at the same time to have the savvy and energy to drive
revenues.
Attributes we Look For:
Essential is a proven track record of not just managing operations, but growing revenues through creative and dynamic leadership.
In addition, the DO must be a great communicator whether talking to customers, staff, or a City agency.
The DO must also be a good active listener when interacting with staff and customers and able to evaluate ideas and turn same into action.
The DO must be organized and able to manage a wide variety of tasks and assignments. The successful candidate will
design and implement SOPs and seeing to it that they are followed.
Knowledge of the New York City, its restaurant market, and related regulations will be
helpful.
As part of the Cornbread leadership team, the DO is expected to work closely with the
Cornbread CEO and Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
Education:
College Degree in business or hospitality preferred (but not essential). More importantly,
show us you know the business of running multiple restaurants, can be instrumental in growing the business, and that you are an
excellent manager of people.
Experience Required:
Minimum 5-years experience working as a Director, Operations in the restaurant industry overseeing multiple locations
Must have experience in restaurant culinary operations, managing
both front of the house and back of the house staff and tasks, including staff scheduling and
training. And a track record of :
Revenue growth and maintaining appropriate prime costs
Managing and motivating their GMs and other reports
Managing vendors, inventory, and negotiating procurement contracts
Product consistency and design, ability to source ingredients and ancillary supplies,
such as paper goods.
Implementing, improving and maintaining an outstanding customer experience
Risk management with regards to the proper handling of employee issues and
customer relations
Maintaining food safety and safe restaurant procedures for staff and to ensure a safe
and pleasant dining experience.
Positive reviews on Google, Yelp and other platforms.
Experience working with social media consultants
Span of Control:
The DO has the ability to make all routine operating decisions. This includes ensuring great
customer experiences, representing our brands, and leading their team. This also includes
hiring and terminating all employees in consultation with the Chief People Officer and, at
times, the CEO if the person in question is a manager. The Director of Operations does not
make major conceptual, creative and menu changes without the approval of the CEO.
Travel:
You must have a car; you will be spending a fair time on the road regularly visiting
Cornbread stores in New Jersey and NYC frequently. A car allowance will be provided.
Salary & Benefits
DOs will be eligible to enroll in the company health insurance and other benefit plans.
Salary range: $90,000 to $140,000.
Home Base:
Will generally be in the field, with a concentration in Brooklyn, New York. Cornbread has a central office in the Newark NJ are and is building a central commissary and
office in Newark, NJ. The DO will be expected to spend on average, a few mornings
or afternoons per week in the central office to attend meetings, etc.
