Purpose Statement:
Under direction of the School Administrator, performs varied clerical and secretarial functions in a school office. Provides communication services concerning school activities, policies, regulations, and procedures. Performs other related work as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (May not include all tasks employee may be expected to perform.)
- Serves as secretary to the Principal for Instruction of Jackson High School.
- Receives visitors, answers the telephone, and responds accordingly.
- Types a variety of materials from rough drafts or instructions, such as letters, memoranda, bulletins, requisitions, and reports.
- Gathers data to prepare a variety of federal, state, and/or district reports.
- Develops and maintains filing systems which include confidential records.
- Maintains an appropriate and legal level of confidentiality of information relevant to school business.
- Supervises the conduct of students within the office.
- Orders and maintains inventory of printed supplies.
- Operates duplicating and other office equipment.
- Assists with special events, may assist or direct special visitors and community groups using school facilities.
- Maintains the master building calendar and arranges for requested equipment and set-up.
- Maintains inventory and issues building keys.
- Arrange for service of office equipment.
Qualification Requirements: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be qualified to perform essential duties. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.)
- Knowledge in a variety of Microsoft Windows software programs and Google Workplace. Also knowledgeable in areas such as PowerSchool, e-mail, electronic calendar, word processing, and navigating the Internet.
- Typing at a net corrected speed of 50 words per minute.
- Ability to pass the districts intermediate skills test.
- Plan and prioritize work with minimal supervision, and with many interruptions.
- Ability to promote harmonious relationships with students, parents, staff and administrators.
- High school graduate or equivalent and three years of successful diversified secretarial experience involving work with the public, preferably including one-year experience in an educational setting.
