Acumen, LLC is actively seeking a Copy Editor who can work closely with senior staff to review proposals and technical writing, as well as review documents prior to submission to clients . The successful candidate will have professional experience as a Copy Editor in business or technical communications, with experience on proposals for federal contracts a plus.
The Copy Editor independently performs the following job functions:
- Provide editorial support to teams writing proposals for federal contracts and developing other written deliverables (reports, slide decks, etc.).
- Perform "white glove" review (final detailed proofread before delivery) of proposals and other deliverables. Review for all aspects of editorial quality: grammar, spelling, punctuation, usage, capitalization, formatting, overall consistency, etc.
- Provide editorial perspective during production stages before final publication or delivery. Edit content for substantive issues such as readability, organization, and alignment with development standards and Request for Proposal (RFP) requirements.
- Collaborate with colleagues, authors, subject matter experts, and others to resolve technical content issues.
- Serve as a resource for project managers, proposal contributors, researchers, and others on meeting editorial standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- 5 years' professional experience copyediting business or technical materials. Candidates must complete a timed, in-person copyediting test.
- Utmost work accuracy and attention to detail.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word including document layout, Word styles, table formatting, tables of contents, etc.
- Familiarity with referencing styles (e.g., Chicago, AMA) and reference management software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Flexibility to handle multiple projects, sometimes simultaneously, under deadline pressure.
- Very strong written communication skills and solid interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with senior management in a multidisciplinary team setting.
Highly Desired Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Working knowledge of health services and health policy research.
- Experience working with federal agencies, such as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Department of Health and Human Services, or the Food and Drug Administration.
$65,000 - $110,000 a year
This is a full-time, onsite position with preference for our Burlingame, CA headquarters. We will also consider applications for our Washington, DC office. The salary range for this position is $65,000- $110,000; consideration for higher compensation may be made for candidates with advanced qualifications and experience.
