Job Title: Coordinator of Science
Credentials: Current Oklahoma Teaching Certificate
Education: Bachelor's degree in Science; a Master's degree preferred.
Training or experience required: Minimum of five years teaching and/or
administrative experience.
Site: Curriculum Center
Reports to: Executive Director of Teaching & Learning
Contract: 220 days
FLSA Classification: Exempt.
Essential Job Functions:
- Work with the Executive Director of Teaching & Learning to develop the content area curriculum, assessments and other curricular resources such as essential standards and pacing guides.
- Serve as spokesperson and provide district leadership in the content area.
- Arrange staff development and training to staff. Keeps up-to- date concerning developments in curriculum and instruction. Model and assist staff in implementing new instructional ideas and strategies. Encourage leadership training; cooperation and communication between staff and other academic programs.
- Identify resource and equipment needs for the content area.
- Serve on advisory boards and other state and national organizations to keep informed on current trends in curriculum and other educational programs.
- Work with community and parents to obtain support for curriculum, resolve concerns and/or problems that arise concerning instructional materials and methods. Respond to requests for information about specific programs. Maintain liaison with education leaders in various curricula at the university, state, regional and national level.
- Keep the Executive Director of Teaching & Learning informed of all activities and special programs. Coordinate the planning of special extracurricular dates; summer classes, etc.
- Research, report, and help implement state and federal instructional requirements in the school system (Title VII, Civil Rights Act, and other federal and state requirements).
- Work with district and state student competitions and activities in the content areas.
- Analyze and summarize district and state assessment information. Work with advisory boards, school sites and district staff to use the data for school improvement.
- Oversee the elementary and secondary science administrative assistants in ordering, organizing, and delivering science kits and consumables to school sites.
- Perform other duties as required.

An employee in this position must be able to communicate clearly both orally and in writing. Must possess the ability to utilize and promote the use of participatory management techniques. Must possess personal characteristics including, but not limited to, poise, perspective, integrity, flexibility, sound judgment, and the professionalism necessary for success as an administrator in the Norman Public Schools District. Must work collaboratively with students, parents, administrators, and staff. Must be able to handle conflict and utilize problem solving strategies. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
