POSITION: ECHS Student Services Coordinator EXEMPT STATUS: Exempt NUMBER OF DAYS: 217 PAY GRADE: Admin/ Prof PG - 5 DIVISION: Academics DEPARTMENT: Early College High School @ Midland College REPORTS TO: Principal SUPERVISES: None EDUCATION:Hold an appropriate Texas counselor's certificate, or eligible for a permit for a counselor's Certified at the level of assignment based on a bachelor's degree.Master's degree from accredited college or university. EXPERIENCE: Three years as a successful classroom teacher and Student Services POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE: To develop and implement a program of Student Services by assisting students with academic course planning and responsive support systems that will prepare them for the rigor and process of completing higher education. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree from accredited college or university.Valid Texas counseling certification.Working knowledge of high school graduation plans and credits.Experience guiding students through the college admissions and financial aid processes.Ability to counsel students in personal crisis situations.

COMMUNICATIONConsistently exhibits effective communication skills when working with superiors, peers, parents, and students so that individuals have confidence in the coordinator's knowledge, concern, and competence. Interpret and share information about student achievement and progress with parents, teachers, and other professional personnel.Ensure current 4-year plans for all students by scheduling and conducting conferences with parents and/or students, providing accurate information about course offerings, requirements, and suitability.Coordinate a program of new student orientation in conjunction with Midland College personnel. Promptly respond to parent and/or student inquiries through telephone or personal contact.

Conduct required daily classroom activities with the Path to Success program and in structured tutorial/mentoring sessions. STUDENT PLACEMENT Exhibits accurate knowledge of the school program and of ways in which specific student needs can and should be addressed through the program, insuring that the testing, scheduling, and placement of students is done in the most efficacious and appropriate manner. Coordinate all preregistration and scheduling activities at the campus level.

Certifies student eligibility for honors, awards, and other appropriate recognition. Participate and contribute information for campus ARD meetings. INFORMATION SERVICES Ongoing data collection about students is efficiently conducted, student records are current and accurate, dissemination of information is planned and initiated, and request for information are honored quickly and efficiently.

Supervise the maintenance of permanent records and transcripts for all students. Disseminate materials about scholarships and other special student opportunities; supervise the completion of applications in a timely and accurate manner; writes letters for recommendation as requested and appropriate.Provide requested information to other educational institutions or business establishment about current and/or former students.Provide information to the public regarding guidance programs and activities. Collect and disseminates guidance materials that are relevant to the educational, vocational, and personal needs of students.

DUAL CREDIT (CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT)Organize and implement all dual credit enrollment activities.Work with Midland College counselors and registrar to maintain good communication. Advise students regarding dual credit (concurrent enrollment) eligibility and testing status. Assist in follow-up reminders to faculty and students concerning dual credit (concurrent enrollment) registration deadlines.

COUNSELING SERVICES Students and parents are made to feel welcome by the coordinator and are given the kind of academic, personal, and/or vocational counseling which is appropriate or are referred carefully and caringly to other resources so that a variety of student needs and parent concerns can be met. Is available and accessible to students, on a daily basis in such a way that both planned and casual contact with students is achieved.Provide appropriate career and educational counseling for individuals and student groups.Conference with parents and/or students regarding student aptitude, achievement and ability, with particular emphasis on the counseling of students regarding THEA, PSAT, SAT and ACT testing.Work effectively with students and/or parents to resolve scheduling conflicts.Conduct failure conferences with students on a regular basis.Is knowledgeable about community agencies and coordinates the referral of students to those agencies as appropriate.Follow up on teacher and parent referrals for special diagnosis and counseling of student, working closely with MISD and community resources.Conduct support groups for students. Provide PGP's for At-Risk students in a collaborative effort to encourage student success.

ADMINISTRATIVE Administrative duties are executed with initiative, organization, and efficiency and are completed in a timely manner. Contribute appropriately to the development of the master schedule.Assist in the planning and development of college bridge programs, career days, or college personnel visitations.Administer local scholarship and student opportunity programs.Develop and implement a mentoring system. Assist teachers, when necessary, in becoming sensitive to the needs, interests, and feelings of students.Assist in the supervision of students to insure a safe and conducive learning environment.

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH Seeks methods by which a constant renewal, refinement, and acquisition of skills for Student Services be achieved; improvement and growth are a priority. Formulate, with the principal, an annual professional development plan. Plan for and engage in professional growth through attendance at state, regional and/or district meetings and conferences.
