BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
Oversees Department of Art, Art History & Design sculpture studio in order to train students in the safe and effective use of hand and power tools and machines, assist students with assigned projects and provide project support in the department as assigned.
UNIT SPECIFIC EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical or vocational school in the visual arts or an area closely related to the employing department; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in the use of hand and power tools in a shop environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- May require valid vehicle operator’s license where needed to perform duties of the position.2. Desired working knowledge with strong willingness to learn where needed, including but not limited to the following equipment and processes: metal fabrication, mold making, casting, use and maintenance of a foundry and a 3-axis CNC router.3. Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.4. Knowledge of basic computer terminology and operations, and the ability to use email and the Internes is necessary.
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, self-reliant, resourceful, patient, a good listener, respectful of students/colleagues and broadly curious about techniques, materials and tools commonly used in a sculpture program.

Responsibilities:
- Maintains and manages tools, machines, supplies and materials inventory for the sculpture studio. Tools include common hand and stationary sheet metal tools, drill press, grinders, sanders, sandblaster, common welding equipment (including oxy-acetylene, stick, MIG, TIIG, and plasma cutting) and a foundry.
- Assists in determining facility layout, supply and equipment purchases, safety procedures, hours of operation and overall organization of sculpture studio.
- Trains and oversees students, staff and faculty in the safe and effective use of hand and power tools and machines including proper personal protection equipment. Monitors those working in the studio for compliance.
- Assists students and/or faculty in the design and completion of projects requiring the use of the sculpture studio.
- Provides general departmental support in metal and other sculpture media project design and construction.
- Maintains records related to the sculpture studio.
- Prepares, organizes, updates and modifies documentation of equipment, facilities and operations.
- Maintains or increases knowledge of art applications as the relate to the sculpture studio through coursework, readings, practical experience or attendance at seminars, workshops or related educational programs.
- Manages inventory and storage of raw materials in the sculpture studio.
- Coordinates the collection and removal of hazardous wastes.
- Assists in maintaining other departmental facilities and equipment in a similar fashion as needed, working closely with other departmental technicians.
