130 miles east of Des Moines, and 230 miles west of Chicago, Cedar Rapids is a city in eastern Iowa. The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art includes many works by native Iowan painter Grant Wood. Brucemore is an estate with acres of gardens and an 1880s mansion, which houses local history displays. Nearby, Bever Park has an ice rink, a pool and farm animals. The National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library offers exhibits on the history and culture of 19th-century immigrants.

 

Evergreen Packaging Equipment is located in the city of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with close proximity to Chicago. Initially begun in 1880 to service the dairy industry, EPE now manufactures gable-top carton filling machines, making Evergreen Packaging a fully vertically integrated carton provider for its customers. EPE has 170 team members and now has 1300 installed machines in over 50 countries.

Job Summary:

This role exists to provide Controls Engineering support to the assigned product lines.  The key internal customers are the project engineers, product line managers, manufacturing, and purchasing departments. Key external customers include vendors, the Technical Support Team, the field service technicians, and our end customers.  The deliverables from this role are electrical engineering design, programming for logic controllers and visualization interface, and technical support.

  • For assigned product lines, maintain a fully documented and accurate electrical design and control programs that comply with established Pactiv-Evergreen and industry standards.
  • Maintain a cost balance for the electrical design that achieves the lowest base cost with the highest manufacturing efficiency and lowest warranty. This balance should also account for the highest operational efficiency and lowest maintenance requirement.
  • Produce electrical design/program changes to support sale orders, product improvements, and change requests/non-conformances for assigned product lines.
  • Provide timely, complete, and consistent technical support to internal and external business customers as required in support of assigned product lines.
  • Support the Controls Team to increase output, standardization, and repeatability of designs and programs through developing and continuously improving engineering tools and work processes.
  • Maintain at minimum a 30-day backlog of all assigned non-conformances.
  • Develop controls standards.

 

The individual working in this position is expected to complete all phases of the assigned accountabilities to a successful conclusion within appropriate scope, time, and cost for standard engineering projects. This individual is expected to complete the assigned accountabilities with minimal support from the Controls Manager and peers in the controls team.  Assignments to product lines will typically be newer and mid-market level models with occasional sale order specials and product extension assignments.  A solid technical knowledge base for design and programming is established within this individual, to where they are able to handle most assignments and a standard level of technology with minimal support. This individual should be able to provide a reasonable amount of support and training to lower level staff on most subjects, and be able to coordinate a portion of their work through others.  This individual should also be capable of identifying and producing moderate level standards, engineering tools, and process improvement initiatives with some direction from the Controls Manager.


Requirements:

  • 4-year degreed Engineer. Preferably electrical (BSEE). Will consider mechanical or chemical.
  • 2-5 years’ professional experience related to this position.
  • Proficient with CAD - AutoCad or SolidWorks preferred.
  • Proficient with Rockwell Automation Programming tools and Allen-Bradley hardware.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce results.

  • Ability to travel up to 25%.
