POSITION SUMMARY:
Looking for a hands-on Controls Engineer. This position supports assigned project(s) to meet customer requirements for timing, quality, and cost. To accomplish this the individual must be capable of providing leadership within the Controls Engineering Department
ASSIGNMENTS / DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports other Controls Engineers, electrical designer, shop floor electricians, and electrical panel builders
- Expert on PLC programming languages, operator interface programming languages and hardware design
- Works closely with Application Engineers to develop concepts and support sales engineering as needed
- Manage internal design reviews and participate in design reviews with customer
- Develop project milestones with the Project Management Department
- Provide cost estimates for controls design and build
- Maintain the customer standards for all designs
- Domestic and international travel to customer sites will be required
- Develop and implement standard engineering practices and standard operating procedures to implement a world class controls department.
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC:
- The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or associate’s degree with proven experience in related field(s)
- 3+ years of professional experience in electrical and controls work, machine tool and automation experience preferred
- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals
- Strong knowledge and experience with engineering principles and procedures that apply to machine design, machine safety and risk assessment, part handling, robotic end-of-arm-tool design, semi-automated work cell layout, robotic work cell layout, process flow, operator ergonomics and machine aesthetics
- Strong computer skills and knowledge in the following area (job costing, accounting, project milestone techniques and procedures, personal and group time management, structuring meeting and leadership techniques.)
- Thorough understanding of coordinated motion control technologies, PID setup, control, and tuning, mechanical drive train design including the application of stepper motors, servo motors, pneumatics, and hydraulics
- Advanced knowledge of Rockwell Automation PLC programming platforms: RSLogix 500, 5000, Studio 5000, Connected Components Workbench, (Omron CX-Programmer, Siemens S7, Mitsubishi GXWorks 2/3 or others are a plus)
- Advanced knowledge of Rockwell Automation HMI development software: FactoryTalk View Studio ME, Studio 5000 View Designer, (Automation Direct C-More, Proface GP-ProX, EasyBuilder Pro, or others are a plus)
- Vision system programming experience: Keyence, Cognex, Teledyne DALSA
- Experience programming and integrating Fanuc and Yaskawa robots (other brands are a plus).
- Robot pathing and internal I/O logic
- Interfacing with connected PLC
- TCP and user frame teaching/adjusting, as well as setting up safety features such as Fanuc DCS / Yaskawa FSU setup
- Relevant experience in:
- Design for manufacturing
- Design for automation
- Special purpose machinery
- Industrial robots
- Industrial machine control systems
- Ability to read electrical schematics and size electrical components
- Experience in the Automotive industry is a plus
- Travel to assist with startup and debug could be as much as 15%-20%
