General Description - To provide engineering support for manufacturing and marketing functions as they pertain to the automation of the compressor system. This position is responsible for the design and layout of the compressor control systems and other new products to meet customer and market needs.
Roles and Responsibilites -
Develop special designs to meet special customer requests and provide any supporting calculations in the selection of electrical equipment; this may include working with 3rd party resources to achieve desired results
Prepare and review layouts and designs, and specifications for new, proposed, and existing projects for accuracy
Initiate and check Design Notifications & Engineering Change Orders (ECO's)
Use Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID's) and electrical schematics to develop the programming required to control the products manufactured, modified or supported by the product company
Maintains engineering programming documentation and programs
Develop hardware drawings for PLC systems, I/O systems, operator desks and stations in AutoCad; authoring technical Documentation to fulfill all project requirements. Train to program, troubleshoot and test Atlas Copco proprietary microprocessor controllers.
Implementing design by PLC/HMI programming and configuring hardware/software.
Design products/projects to meet specifications set by customer project needs and that are in compliance with local and national codes, and that conform to Company standards for quality, economics, performance and safety
Prepare Bills of Material (BOM) and provide purchasing department with specifications for ordering raw materials required for fabrication
Participate in prototyping, testing and production line development
Prepare and support materials for products designed and supported by the product company
Authoring technical documentation to fulfill all project requirements.
Provide continuing technical support for the assembly/production, Sales, Marketing and Service Operations and quality processes relevant to products design and to ensure product compliance.
Support Sales department for ALL hardware related technical specifications for proposals
Design, build and trouble shoot electrical panels and control boards
Develop test procedures for software and complete automation system, and assist in carrying out testing
In conjunction with OSHA law and/or requirements, apply the SafeStart safety training process when performing all work in order to reinforce practical safety training techniques, maintain awareness and prevent injury.
Qualifications -
Experience - Current hands on experience with electrical components and knowledge of how the control system works. Must have a minimum of 3 years programming experience using Allan Bradley PLC, FactoryTalk Panel View program and Siemens PLC's. Must have a minimum of 4 years of machine control system or electrical product design experience, including testing/problem solving within a factory, lab, school or industrial environment. Must have current experience using AutoCAD for the ability to interpret electrical schematics and P&ID's and troubleshooting.
Knowledge - Knowledge of North American Electrical Standard such as National Electrical Code. Understanding of how AC, DC, current, voltage, power, motor, drive, transformer, high/low pass filter works.
Intimate understanding of current NEC and UL codes and be willing to coordinate the implementation and maintenance of Atlas Copco's ongoing UL certification process. Knowledge of PLC/HMI programming and must be fluent in developing and programming ladder logic based on a set of electrical schematics and P&ID's to control rotating equipment and/or similar machinery is required, including function block logic programming and understand sequencing programming and C language.
Education - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
Skills - Requires excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Must be a decision maker with the ability to work under minimum supervision. Multi-tasking capability to handle projects in a proactive manner under strict timelines. Must be a team player, open-minded and flexible with the capability to generate creative solutions to problems within a fast-paced environment. Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
