Controller

River Valley Companies is seeking an ambitious Controller to become a vital part of the company.  In the is leadership role, you will plan and direct all operational accounting functions, manage the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for internal and external financial statements, assess accounting and internal control systems, and guide departmental staff.  Working with our company, you will handle key decisions and challenge, negotiate and influence the team.  You will interact with all facets of the organization. We have roughly 130 employees and operate under 9 rooftops, spread within 3 great communities- Red Wing, Rochester, Minnetonka.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervise accounting functions and personnel.
• Coordinate financial reporting and accounting functions.
• Assist staff in financial analysis of operation.
• Monitor and analyze operations performance and recommend corrective action if needed.
• Monitor the company’s financial reports and determine ways to reduce costs.
• Assisting management with financial decisions and strategies.
• Prepare and present financial reports.
• Coordinating both the month-end and fiscal year-end close process, up to and including financial statement review and tax returns.
• Direct and coordinate the preparation of annual budgets.
• Develop and maintain accounting and analysis methods that meet the requirements of the company and comply with government regulations.
• This individual will provide direct assistance to the owner as well as work collaboratively with managers on billing, collection, and reporting areas of finance to provide optimal results.

EDUCATION: 

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration, with minimum 5+ years of experience in a Finance Accounting role and previous supervisory experience is preferred. Professional certification, either CPA or CMA, is desired.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

• Five or more years of experience with increasing responsibility in accounting/finance field.
• Detail oriented.
• Strong business acumen.
• Able to handle busy and diverse workload.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work independently.
• Knowledge of computers, high proficiency with various financial software.
• Must have working knowledge of financial analysis, and financial principles.
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive issues and documents.
• Ability to lead and develop staff.

SCHEDULE:

Position will be housed on site at our Red Wing location. The job has a 5-day work week: Monday thru Friday 8 AM- 5PM (hours may vary; including 30 min lunch break). A modified schedule or additional time may be required in order to deliver initiatives.  This position may require some travel to our Rochester and Lake Minnetonka locations.  In addition, travel will be required to attend outside stakeholder meetings, conferences, and training.
