Isuzu Technical Center of America is looking for a Contract Commercial Vehicle Engineer to join the Plymouth, MI Commercial Vehicle Testing team. Selected candidate will be placed with a preferred agency for employment.
JOB SUMMARY:
Pursues state of the art Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) to improve product Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) performance and structural durability while minimizing time and cost involved in developing new products. Provides engineering analysis from tests and simulations, and reports findings.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participates in the deployment of structural and NVH CAE processes within ITCA.
- Develops and improves structural and NVH CAE capabilities, methodologies, processes, and tools.
- Creates and analyzes flexible multi-body dynamic models of vehicle for system, subsystem and component level vibration and radiated noise analysis.
- Conducts total vehicle, sub-system, and component level modal and NVH analysis.
- Conducts dynamic response and stress analysis on engine mounts, accessory drive components, intake/exhaust, prop-shafts, half-shaft support, oil pan, and other related components.
- Works with local and global CAE and NVH teams to resolve powertrain noise and/or durability issues quickly.
- Provides project management for coordinating CAE structural and NVH activity between internal and external teams and testing groups to meet program timing.
- Performs miscellaneous job related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Minimum one year experience in automotive research and development with a concentration in automotive engine and vehicle development
- Direct coursework in internal combustion engines preferred
- Seminar/industrial training in specialty preferred
- Software experience in Multibody Dynamics, and FEA is an added advantage.
KNOWLEDGE
- Basic knowledge of automotive products
- Basic knowledge of automotive mechanical/electrical systems
- Knowledge of test procedures related to commercial trucks
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Excellent PC skills in Windows applications
- Proficient in structural and NVH CAE tools for FEA
- Software skills: ADAMS, Optistruct, Hyperworks Suite, nCode
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic skills in engine/vehicle development as demonstrated by scholarly/industrial achievements
- Ability to follow project goals and time schedules in area of vehicle expertise
- Must be able to obtain and keep a commercial driving license and medical certificate
- Report writing and analytical skills
- Ability to assist team toward project goals
PHYSICAL STANDARDS
- Employee must be able to perform occasional light lifting (5 - 25 lbs.) and rare heavy lifting (60 lbs.).
- Must be able on rare occasions to bend, crawl, climb, crouch, kneel, and reach above shoulder level in the performance of job duties. Must be able to work in hot, cold, and high altitude extremes.
Position may require 5-10% travel including overnight and weekend stays.
