Product Development Engineer – Novi, MI
- Understand customer specifications and assure compliance of the application designs
- Apply APQP to the application (i.e., DFMEA, SCIF, DFM/A, DVP&R, Dim/Tol analysis, proto Control Plan)
- Select materials aligned with Materials Engineering, Purchasing and manufacturing strategies
- Develop and maintain prototype and production Bill of Materials
- Lead Design and Release (D&R) Development in a phase-gate process
- Develop Design Validation Test Plans
- Lead and organize prototype materials and processing creating development test parts
- Evaluate prototype tooling cost & timing from external or intra-company sources
- Direct prototype dimensional and quality controls
- Provide direction to CAD, CAE/CFD and test personnel
- Lead and organize validation testing per DV plan
- Qualify heat exchangers per customer or company requirements
- Assess testing results and apply design and/or prototype quality countermeasures as necessary
- Report application design changes and lessons learned to core engineering
- Release and sign-off of drawings ensuring drawings align with corporate design standards
- Execute and document all required product design corporate deliverables
- Interface frequently with global PD, Manufacturing and Program Management activities
- Interface with customers (internal and external)
- Support cost reduction initiatives and production launches
Years of Experience
0-5 years related experience preferred
Education
Bachelor of Science in Engineering required; Mechanical Engineering preferred
Desired Competencies, Experience, & Qualifications
- Understanding of heat transfer, fluids flow, materials, and structural principles
- Demonstrated problem solving skills
- Experience in project planning and management
- Able to interpret CFD and CAE/FEA results and utilize to optimize component design
- Experience in quality disciplines such as DFMEA, SCIFS, etc.
- Ability to conduct Technical Design Reviews according to industry disciplines
- Demonstrated ability to design, develop, test, and launch heat exchangers or related assemblies
- Experience in design of brazed aluminum assemblies and formed aluminum components
- Proven proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Close work with lab on test set-up, execution and reports
Special Requirements (i.e., Overtime, Travel, etc.)
- Travel required to suppliers, customers and corporate manufacturing plants; international as required.
- Overtime may be required during some time periods.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $35.00 - $50.00 per hour
