MLK Community Healthcare (MLKCH) is a growing health system that provides quality care to the medically-underserved community of South Los Angeles. MLKCH seeks a Content Manager to tell our compelling story to both internal and external audiences across multiple print and digital channels.
Reporting to the Vice President, Strategic Communications, the Manager serves as editorial director and chief content creator for a wide range of internal and external campaigns. Specifically, the Editorial Manager will assist in the ideation and writing of executive and leadership communications, both internal and external. This position also serves as the managing editor of the MLKCH website, overseeing governance, contributor content, editorial production calendars and quality.
The Manager will supervise and guide internal and freelance content producers and vendors to deliver a broad range of written and other editorial products, ensuring that vendors understand brand tone and that content is produced on deadline and to a high written and creative standard.
In addition, the Manager will generate as needed a diverse range of communications content, including Web, public relations, social media, video and photo assets
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- In collaboration with the VP, Strategic Communications, ideate, write and place high-quality thought leader editorial content for MLKCH executive staff, for use in both internal and external platforms.
- Significant content creation for MLKCH's other platforms (social, website, etc.), including written, digital and photo.
- Maintain a department-wide editorial production schedule, ensuring that all stakeholder marketing and communications are understood, planned and calendared appropriately and for maximum impact.
- Manage a stable of creative content producers responsible for deliverables for a wide range of external and internal clients. Assign projects based on the vendor's capabilities, monitor project production schedules, and ensure deliverables are produced on time and to a high written and creative standard.
- Support media relations activities, including writing press advisories and releases, pitching the media, creating regular social media content and more. Serve as a point of contact for the media, including talking points and scripts.
- Post to, and maintain, hospital communications content and collateral across a range of online content management systems, including the hospital's website CMS, social feeds, digital asset management tool for photo, video and other types of content, e-newsletter platform, social media platforms, digital design platforms, digital and print advertising, print collateral, and more.
- In collaboration with the organization's Creative Services Manager, collect, edit and produce video and other visual content for dissemination on MLKCH's public-facing platforms.
- Backstop team on logistical and other project coordination for photo and video shoots as well as community public relations events.
- Backstop the VP, Strategic Communications, on a diverse range of communications and media relations projects and activities, as needed, as well as in emergency response scenarios and trainings, such as those required for natural disasters.
- Strong understanding of social media content creation and metric-informed social media strategies.
Given the nature of the work, some activities may require after or before normal work hours and weekend work, as appropriate.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A. Education
- Bachelor's degree required. Degree in journalism, public relations, marketing or communications preferred. Bachelor's degree in associated field accepted if other qualifications are met.
B. Qualifications/Experience
- 3-5 years' experience in media, advertising, or public relations, preferably in Editor/Writer role, or within the communications/media relations department of a health-related organization.
- Strong editorial sensibility, with a demonstrated understanding of news gathering, story and AP style.
- Strong editorial management and project management skills, including the ability to manage an editorial content creation production schedule, choose and manage vendors to execute content, and deliver on time and on budget.
- Experience with content management systems, social media platforms, digital asset management. Good understanding of SEO and digital best practices.
- Demonstrated superb written and verbal communication skills. Strong and persuasive interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Demonstrated experience producing a range of communications products of various formats and lengths on-time and to a high standard.
- Experience coordinating and collaborating with team members, subcontractors and vendors.
- Demonstrated expertise producing, posting and maintaining content for social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn).
- Ability to independently problem-solve, and to reach goals through teamwork and collaboration.
Preferred experience
- Journalism, editorial, public relations or marketing experience. Bi-lingual (Spanish) speakers highly encouraged.
