Purpose of the Position:
Responsible for reviewing, analyzingcredit reports and underwriting Consumer loan applications in accordance withregulatory and internal guidelines. Servesas an intermediate-level underwriter for designated loan products and providestraining and assistance to entry level underwriters. Works directly with Bank personnel tofacilitate complete loan applications for analysis and sound underwriting.
Key Accountabilities:
- Is thoroughly familiar withthe Bank's consumer loan products, policies, and procedures. Complies with all applicable regulatoryrequirements. Has a general knowledge ofthe Bank's private banking products.
- Answers incoming phonecalls within established time frames. Serves as a resource by responding quickly and courteously to allinquiries.
- In accordance with the Consumer Credit Policyand Guidelines, underwrites and approves consumer loans, including rate andpolicy exceptions, within assigned lending authority. Evaluates applicationsoutside of lending authority and makes recommendations as appropriate.
- Works with bankers and LoanProcessing to obtain information necessary to underwrite consumer loan products.Performs analysis of personal income tax returns and personal financialstatements of moderate complexity. Reviews and determines appropriateness of verification of income and documentationsupplied by outside entities.
- Communicates creditdecisions within the loan origination system. Conducts follow-up with bankersand Loan Processing in accordance with established guidelines to obtain pendinginformation.
- Provides on-the-jobtraining and assistance to new hires and entry level underwriters and serves asa subject matter expert on consumer loan products.
- Assists with testing forupgrades and changes within the loan origination system, identifiesdiscrepancies, and make recommendations for system enhancements/processimprovements.
- Identifies opportunities toup sell and/or cross sell related bank products and services.
- Register and maintain registry as a Mortgage Loan Officer (MLO) with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) and Registry and in accordance with the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act (the S.A.F.E. Act).
- Meet and maintain financial responsibility, character, and general fitness standards along with all other established requirements for an individual Loan Originator in accordance with Regulation Z.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Experience Requirements:
- 2 years of consumer loanunderwriting, processing or servicing experience.
- Ability to work well withinternal and external customers.
- Prior experience to includeconsumer loan approval authority.
- Demonstrated knowledge ofconsumer lending, including banking compliance and regulatoryrequirements.
Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Some college or a 4-yearcollege degree preferred.
Other Requirements:
- Type 35 wpm
- Proficiency with Microsoft Officesoftware and products, specifically Word and Excel
- Experience with the followingsystems:
- Meridian Link Consumer (LPQ)
- Fiserv
- 10 key calculator
- Financial calculator preferred
