Job Description
KHS&S, one of the largest specialty contractors in the U.S., is looking for a Safety Engineer to implement safety and risk management programs at construction project sites across the Northern California region. Qualified candidates will have minimum 2 years of related safety experience. Candidates that have obtained or are pursuing CHST are preferred.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Safety
- Perform project site safety audits and inspections to assess safety and health risks associated with equipment, materials, processes, facilities, etc. within assigned region, as require
- Document Management: Obtaining, tracking, recording, and reviewing safety documents and submittals.
- Identify conditions or actions that may cause injury, illness, or property damage. Work with project sites to assure compliance and corrective actions have been implemented.
- Distribute reports, coach onsite personnel to improve conditions and performance. Bring serious situations to the immediate attention of Area Operations Manager, General Superintendent, and the Manager, Safety & Risk Control.
- Interface with the General Contractor and others to increase trust, confidence, and support for the safety program.
- Confirm that all required compliance posters are available and visible onsite.
- Assist project sites with the development, implementation, communication, and execution of site-specific safety program.
- Assist project sites with new hire safety orientation, job specific safety training, safety meetings, and the administration of our Corporate Safety Program.
- Review, prepare and conduct an analysis of leading and lagging indicators to drive safety improvement.
- Confirm that all sites are in compliance with the General Contractor’s, OSHA’s, KHS&S’ and all other governing bodies requirements. Discrepancies shall be reported to the Director, Safety & Risk Control immediately, along with solutions to correct potential problems.
- Implement safety incentive program.
- Deal with OSHA inspection/citation issues when they arise in the field.
- Manage scaffold usage in the field and report to administrative clerk.
- Conduct accident investigations as they arise in the field. Determine facts related to an accident or incident based on witness interviews, site inspections, and collection of other evidence.
- Perform daily inspections on jobsites. Depending on distance of jobsite it may be one per day. If you are placed on a project that requires a full-time safety coordinator, a daily inspections report must be completed and turned in to the Manager, Risk and Safety Control.
Training
- Prepare and distribute training materials.
- Conduct and/or schedule resources to conduct specific classes in Safety training (i.e., scissor lift, scaffold use, fall protection, etc.) to provide employees with the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize hazards to perform their job safely and effectively.
