NATURE OF WORK:
Performs responsible supervisory, administrative, and technical field inspection work enforcing national, state, and local codes governing the design, construction and facilities management, and renovation of buildings and structures. Work involves coordinating and supervising the inspection of new and existing buildings, and structures, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical installations, and requires considerable knowledge of electrical, carpentry, plumbing, building construction, or mechanical field as well as in depth knowledge of all applicable codes and ordinances. Employees assigned to this classification must exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in the interpretation and application of codes in making technical decisions. Work is performed under general supervision, according to established guidelines, and performance is reviewed through reports submitted, meetings, and results obtained for technical sufficiency and consistent application. Inspection work is performed outdoors and employee is occasionally exposed to weather conditions and heights.
Minimum Requirements
Associate's degree in related field with four (4) or more years experience in the fire inspection required one (1) year of which must have been as a supervisor required; or an equivalent combination of related training and experience. A valid Florida driver's license is required. Must pass a background check which includes a polygraph. Must possess a valid Fire-Safety Inspector II certification from the Division of the State Fire Marshal or equivalent National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
VALID DRIVER LICENSE FROM ANY STATE MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW. VALID FLORIDA DRIVER LICENSE MUST BE PRESENTED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE.
