JOB INFORMATION
Construction Estimator positions develop and apply time guidelines to skilled and semi-skilled job requests; determine applicable plumbing, electrical, building, fire, safety and ADA code requirements; provide estimates of supplies, equipment and materials; consult with requesting departments in the office and in the field; interact with various vendors to ascertain materials, supply and specialized services costs; assist in coordinating multi-craft job requests; read and work with blueprints; construction documents; and perform other duties as assigned.
NOTES:
- Employees in job classifications represented by AFSME Local 127 are scheduled to receive the following general wage increases:
- Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EXPERIENCE: You must meet ONE of the following options:
- Two years of full-time aggregate experience estimating building construction or skilled trades maintenance costs.
- Three years of full-time experience in a journey-level skilled trade.
NOTES:
- City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered.
LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License may be required at the time of hire.
HIGHLY DESIRABLE:
- Experience reviewing work requests for preventative maintenance, repair, alteration, and minor building construction work.
- Experience inspecting facilities to determine the feasibility of proposed work.
- Experience checking proposed work for conformance to leases and applicable plumbing, electrical, building, fire, safety, and related codes.
- Experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Certification as a Construction Estimator.
