Role Mission: The Construction Accountant will be responsible for all aspects of the accounting and finance operations for our construction projects. This includes working with project managers to track project costs, and overseeing the financial close process. The Construction Accountant will also be responsible for developing and maintaining financial models to support decision making around construction projects.
Location:
The Construction Accountant must currently live in or be willing to relocate to Texas, with preference for one of our regions in Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin, Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, or Tarrant County.

- Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $58,843- $67,257, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for a performance bonus based on organizational performance and goal attainment.

In this role, you will:
- Work with project managers to create monthly project progress billings.
- Secure project specific insurance certificates for us and our subcontractors.
- When applicable, manage OCIP/CCIP enrollments for us and our subcontractors.
- Focus on data, statistical analysis and reporting to investigate and analyze business performance, provide insights, and drive recommendations to improve performance.
- Acquire lien waivers from vendors.
- File preliminary liens.
- Follow up on payment status with the clients when needed.
- Post incoming payments.
- Input/maintain project budgets.
- Produce weekly cost reports.
- Maintain job files both electronic and hard copy.
- Assist with project managements administrative requirements.
Required Experience and Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required in construction project management or accounting field;
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a construction office environment
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
- Must be reliable, punctual have a strong drive to do whatever it takes
- Must have solid written and verbal communication skills
- Must be open to observation and feedback
- Able to work independently when needed
- Computer literacy; can use Microsoft Office software.
- Understanding of lien releases, project specific insurance, progress billing and project compliance
- Ability to research information, problem solve and prioritize multiple requests
- Keen business analytics skills to effectively weigh options and make tough decisions before presenting findings to decision makers
- Initiative to manage time, improve processes and the organization to help increase efficiency and productivity
Role Goals:
- 100% of programmed schools in operation with teacher and student Temporary Certificate of Occupancy (TCO) two weeks before the first day of school.
- 100% of programmed portables and Master Planned and CapEx projects in operation with teacher and student TCO two weeks prior to first day of school.
- 100% of emergency Capex projects follow the correct approval and procurement process.
- 100% of punchlists created and resolved for every new school within 90 days after the first day of school.
- 85% retention of Facilities and Construction staff
Team Goals:
In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the team to reach the following ambitious goals:
- 85% retention of Facilities and Construction staff
- Meet district's cost per square foot goal
- 100% of programmed schools have student CO/TCO two weeks before the FDOS
- Achieve an A average rating on the comprehensive facility audit
- Ensures 100% of schools are fully operational by the first day of school
