About the Department
The Cobey Lab is a computational lab that investigates how protective antibody responses to influenza arise after infection and vaccination, how they affect the epidemiology and evolution of influenza viruses, and how a mechanistic, quantitative understanding of their dynamics can lead us to better vaccines and vaccination strategies. We collaborate closely with epidemiologists and immunologists. The Lab seeks several quantitative Computational Research Scientists to do statistical and Computational Research on projects ranging from the evolution of B cells, the development of protective antibody responses over a lifetime, the antigenic evolution of influenza viruses, responses to seasonal and universal influenza vaccines, the estimation of seasonal influenza vaccine effectiveness, and the design of new vaccines. Job Summary
The job develops and implements programs to promote a research project or contributes to the scientific direction of a research resource.
Responsibilities
- Design and perform computational and statistical analyses related to the lab's research.
- Strive for reproducibility by maintaining well-documented, validated code.
- Summarize research results in writing and in oral presentations, including at meetings and conferences. Prepare scientific manuscripts.
- Develop new statistical and programming skills.
- Develop deep expertise with literature relevant to research project.
- Manage the research project with the PI.
- Identify potential new research projects.
- Creates first drafts for scientific writing and publications, including protocols and grants.
- Trains and mentors laboratory personnel.
- Performs other related work as needed.

- Experience managing projects, including delivering results on deadline.
Working Conditions
