Compensation Manager   

San Francisco, CA, or Washington, D.C.

Position Responsibilities:  

  • Develop Strategic Compensation Packages: Create global compensation packages and pay programs that align seamlessly with TAF’s strategic objectives.
  • Establish Clear Pay Structures: Design and communicate global comprehensive pay structures, salary benchmarking, pay policies, and compensation planning to ensure transparency and consistency.
  • Oversee Compensation Activities: manage global compensation-related activities, including job evaluation, market pay analysis, internal impact assessment, data audits, and in-depth analysis. Implement and communicate strategies for enhancing existing compensation practices.
  • Ensure Legal Compliance: Ensure that salaries and benefits comply with current regulations and wage and hour compliance.
  • Provide Expert Guidance: Offer expert guidance to managers on making effective pay decisions. Collaborate with leadership to discuss compensation issues, address concerns, and recommend necessary actions for resolution.
  • Market Research and Market Analysis: Participate in compensation surveys and conduct research and compensation analysis to stay updated on market competitiveness, pay equity, and emerging compensation trends within international organizations. 
  • Maintain Internal Equity: Analyze job positions through a comprehensive job evaluation process to guarantee internal equity across various job families and grade levels within the organization.
  • Lead Annual Compensation Planning: Lead the annual compensation planning process. Provide valuable insights on salary budgeting, salary structure adjustments, merit budgets, and salary review processes.
  • Competitive Compensation Plans: Keep abreast of compensation rates in the industry and ensure that our offers are compensation plans to attract and retain top talent.
  • Job Description Preparation: Assist in the preparation of accurate and up-to-date job descriptions, ensuring they reflect the needs of the organization and current market trends. 
  • Effectiveness Reporting: Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of employee compensation programs and strategy, offering data-driven insights for continuous improvement.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Undertake any other duties as assigned to support the overall People and Culture Unit and compensation strategy of the organization.  

Required Skills 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in HR, Business, Industrial Relations, Organizational Development, or related field. 
  • 7 + years of experience in compensation program management, job architecture, and pay equity.
  • Experience as a Compensation Manager in a similar role in a global non-profit or international development organization.
  • Exceptional understanding of job evaluation and compensation analysis and strategy. 
  • Research and analytical skills to gather and interpret data, identifying trends, patterns, and insights for decision-making. Ability to consistently produce high-quality work, ensuring accuracy and precision in all tasks.
  • Computer skills in using spreadsheets, word processing, e-mail, and HR software.
  • Interpersonal and collaborative skills to work effectively with others, seeking out and building positive working relationships.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to provide solutions to pay challenges.
  • Communication skills to convey information clearly and effectively (both verbally and in writing) to individuals and groups in a manner that informs and engages.
  • Management skills to delegate tasks related to developing and devising compensation plans.
  • Extensive knowledge of laws related to compensation 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Firsthand experience with building and managing compensation packages outside of North America (Asia preferred). 
  • Knowledge of building compensation packages for international employees i.e. housing allowances, home leave, etc.
