Community Relations Representative

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
The Community Relations Representative is the person responsible for cultivating internal and external relationships associated with the company's renewable energy facilities, media interactions, and charitable efforts in California’s Imperial Valley. This person will ensure the company is listening to and responsibly sharing information with local community members, leaders and other stakeholders. This role will nurture a strong industry network, increase awareness, and project an enviable corporate image by developing and executing effective communication and Community Relations programs. This person will be an advocate, communicator, problem solver, and crisis manager, and will be expected to represent favorably BHE Renewables and its parent company. This role will oversee a charitable giving budget, and seek out and evaluate community needs, charitable requests, and giving obligations.

Typical Duties

Plan and execute community and other stakeholder relationship improvement initiatives to deliver higher levels of satisfaction within the community as well as continue to build on the company's strong reputation for responsibly and professionally managing renewable energy developments and operations. (20%)

Manage charitable giving, marketing, and donation budgets for all BHE Renewables locations except those located in Imperial County, CA. Ensure charitable giving aligns with BHE core values and DEI initiatives. (15%)

Represent the company as a point of contact for members of local, statewide and international media, landowners, local government, and other interested parties. Coordinate with VP of Communications and Public Affairs to promptly respond to internal and external requests. (15%)

Plan and execute a communication strategy to further educate stakeholders on the benefits of renewable energy generation as well as newsletter type communication to stakeholders to keep building their strong support for company renewable energy projects. (15%)

Represent the company at expos and trade shows, events and other opportunities for charitable giving. (15%)

Field media inquiries, monitors social media and communications department email accounts. (10%)

Manage a variety of internal communication projects including content development, research, analysis and documentation. Writes and manages the development and distribution of employee communications materials. (10%)

Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, English or related field or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)

A minimum of three to five years of experience in a communications, public relations or Community Relations related responsibilities and the ability to develop positive relationships with internal and external customers and stakeholders.

Exceptional oral and written communications skills, including presentation skills. Must be proficient in PowerPoint and Excel and feel comfortable speaking in front of groups.

Strong writing, proofreading and editing skills.

Strong technical computer skills, including understanding of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel).

Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities, demonstrate a high sense of urgency.

Must have a positive attitude and take initiative to drive issues through to resolution and follow up.

Ability to work on multi-location teams.

Effective analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, including attention to detail and accountability.

Familiarity with local communities, community leadership and area issues.

Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple issues and projects concurrently.
