Community Outreach Associate

Public Engagement Associates is searching for a talented and experienced Community Outreach Associate for a part-time position in Prince George’s County, Maryland. About the Project: The Prince George’s County Planning Department’s Planning Assistance to Municipalities and Communities (PAMC) program has launched the Walker Mill CDC Youth Wellness and Opportunities Assessment. The assessment focuses on young people in three communities in Prince George’s County, near Capitol Heights, Suitland and District Heights: Boulevard Heights, Oakland-Ridgeway Pennsylvania Place, and Walker Mill Road South.

The project aims to bring together community members - especially young people between the ages of 12 and 24 years old - to identify the most significant problems they face and provide solutions that will help reduce crime, violence, mental illness, and addiction while improving health and educational training.

The community assessment will engage community residents, especially young people, through a year-long process from February 2024 to February 2025. Community members will be engaged in many ways, including through focus groups, interviews, and a community survey. A Youth Action Committee will provide project guidance and gather youth input. The team will conduct outreach to young people, parents, residents, leaders, service providers, and business and property owners to gain their perspectives on problems and solutions. The final work product will be a written wellness and opportunity assessment report with recommendations.

This position is part-time, contracted work to start immediately until February 2025. Flexible Hours!

Rate: $20-$25/ hour, negotiable based on experience.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain a calendar of grassroots outreach activities, including community events, workshops, appearances and other communication opportunities.
• Do research and help identify key youth-serving contacts in Prince George’s County, near Capitol Heights, Suitland, and District Heights, specifically the Boulevard Heights, Oakland-Ridgeway Pennsylvania Place, and Walker Mill Road South areas.
• Nurture new and old relationships with collaborative partners and contacts.
• Conduct outreach activities in the community (i.e. calls, emails, personal visits) to inform and invite youth and parents to participate in the project.
• Help Youth Advisory members prepare to conduct outreach to their networks (school, rec centers, places of faith, etc).
• Conduct outreach to encourage youth to participate in the project survey. The survey will be accessible online. The Outreach Associate will conduct grassroots organizing at places where youth gather to encourage young people to take the survey using a tablet and virtual survey tool.
• Prepare accurate records and reports on outreach goals and contacts.
• Assist in the organization of special events, including community meetings.

Requirements:

• Preferred experience of 3-5 years of outreach and community engagement activities.
• Knowledge of and/or experience with community organizations in Prince George’s County. Helpful to know organizations near Capitol Heights, Suitland and District Heights.
• Friendly, enthusiastic and positive attitude.
• Knowledge of social media and other basic marketing platforms.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks at a time.
• Able to prepare reports on outreach contacts.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
