Bilingual English-Spanish applicants who are passionate about Latino health are encouraged to apply to this Community Health Worker position. The Community Health Worker will assist with health research and service projects engaging the Latino community in the Kansas City Metro Area. Specifically, this position will support a project focused on providing access to genetic testing and counseling to under-resourced communities, as well as conduct community outreach and education related to other health topics.
This is a full-time, fixed-term position through November 30, 2024, at the University of Kansas Medical Center Department of Population Health JUNTOS Center for Advancing Latino Health in Kansas City. Some travel to other areas in Kansas and Missouri may be required. Duties will include supporting research and community outreach activities, conducting health education and presentations and referring and navigating community members to needed health related resources. Must be willing to work some nights and weekends with a flexible schedule. Reliable transportation is required.Job Description:

Required Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma/GED.
Work Experience:
  • Prior experience working with medically underserved Latino communities.
  • Bilingual: Experience writing and communicating in Spanish and English.
  • Experience using the Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word.
  • Experience using video conferencing platforms - e.g. - Zoom
  • Prior work experience working with confidential information and processes.
  • Experience presenting information to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in public health, health management, health science, psychology, social work or related field.
Work Experience:
  • Prior work experience, training, and/or certification as Community Health Worker.
  • Experience with translation of health-related documents.
  • Experience using social media.
  • Experience administering basic health screenings - blood pressure, BMI, etc.

Skills:
  • Multitasking Skills.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Presentation skills.

Job Duties
  • Make presentations on health-related topics to community members at community settings in English and Spanish.
  • Conduct screening, recruitment, and enrollment of participants in projects (health programs or research) including administration of paper-based, electronic, or phone-based questionnaires.
  • Provide follow up to participants and community members, including referral and navigation to needed resources related to social and health needs.
  • Organize outreach activities and events in coordination with JUNTOS outreach team and community partners.
  • Support implementation of basic health screenings at outreach events.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with key stake holders (e.g., community based organizations, safety net clinics, Community Health Worker/promotora groups).
  • Conduct regular health outreach at community-based locations.
  • Organize and maintain regular documentation of project activities, reports, outcomes, and data collection.
  • Collect and document complete data for project participants per project protocols in study databases.
  • Provide feedback on participant-facing communication materials and channels.
  • Assist in new projects as needed.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and maintain timely communication with team.

Compensation Statement:
The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
