Pay Range Information:

Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.

Job Description Summary:

We have an exciting opening for a Pre-Award Research Grants Analystfor the Office of Research. The selected applicant will work with principal investigators, faculty, and staff to coordinate pre-award activities forgrants and/or contracts.
After the training period, this position will allow a partial remote schedule, to provide a great work-life balance!
This position represents an excellent opportunity to start or grow a career path within the Research Administration field. All the necessary trainings will be provided to ensure success in the position.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with tracking proposals from notice of intent to apply through submission. Monitoring progress of application to ensure timely submission.
  • Thoroughly read and analyze sponsored project opportunity guidelines (e.g. RFAs, BAAs, various solicitations from Federal and non-federal sponsors) to assist in the preparation of proposals.
  • Assist PIs in the preparation of budgets for grant proposals.
  • Train and assist PIs with grant preparation in Cayuse Sponsored Projects (SP) and Cayuse Proposals (S2S).
  • Assist with other aspects of grant development including ensuring all forms are up to date and conform to sponsor and University guidelines, procedures, and policies.
  • Manage organization of grant documentation and reports.
  • Research, identify and notify assigned faculty of grant funding opportunities, and meet with PIs regularly to review pending proposals.
  • Serve as the central information resource for assigned grants; research and resolve administrative inquiries and address routine to complex concerns.
  • Respond to and follow through with inquiries, needs, and/or issues in a prompt and responsive manner.
  • Collect information and data from various sources and assist with preparing and assembling documentation for reports and proposals.
  • Assist with facilitation of project contracts/agreements.
  • Assist faculty with post-award non-financial actions such as progress reports, re-budgeting and no-cost extension requests, and drafting subcontracts and amendments prior to submission to Sponsored Project Services.
  • Collaborate with Sponsored Projects Services team on various projects and assignments, as needed
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum three years’ experience working in an administrative environment, preferably at a non-profit organization with research functions (i.e., institute of higher education, lab, or research center).
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to learn, understand and interpret grant and contract requirements, policies and procedures, and apply them appropriately.
  • Time management skills and the ability to complete multiple assignments with fluctuating deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Experience in obtaining data and disparate information from various sources.
  • Strong writing and editing skills to prepare and proofread clear, concise, and grammatically correct business correspondence, reports and publications and communicate complex information.
  • Skill to operate a computer in a networked environment, including working knowledge of computer programs. Strong computer skills specifically: Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams. Technical skills to quickly learn and use enterprise systems and new software including cloud-based applications.
  • Strong organizational skills to plan and prioritize deadlines and perform multiple tasks without constant direct supervision, and sharp attention to detail.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy and maintain a high level of confidentiality. .
  • Experience working in a team-oriented environment with ability to take initiative and work Independently.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Familiar with 2 CFR 200 “Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards.”
  • Experience in an academic research administration environment.
  • Knowledge of Cayuse suite.
  • Experience in management of externally funded programs in a university environment or similar complex research setting
