Hispanic Federation (HF) is the nation's premier Latino nonprofit membership organization. Founded in 1990, HF supports Hispanic families and strengthens Latino institutions through grantmaking and direct services in the areas of education, health, immigration, civic engagement, economic empowerment, and the environment. Who We Seek

Hispanic Federation seeks a Community Engagement Coordinator to support its civic engagement initiatives in New York City and complete community outreach for HF programming in New York City. The coordinator will support voter registration, voter education, and Get Out the Vote efforts; and will be pivotal in coordinating Community Engagement events, managing materials for distribution in communities, and support in tracking and managing program expenses. The position will provide natural opportunities to learn and will require the ability to remain flexible and adaptable regarding work assignments.

The successful candidate will have experience working with communities of color in New York City, with administrative processes and protocols, and a commitment to social justice. The coordinator will liaise with community-based organizations and government agencies and officials and will work with internal departments to ensure all program components are working in tandem.

The position operates under a hybrid model with days in-office and remote. The coordinator may be required to work offsite at community events and programs, as necessary.

Reports to:  Senior Director for Community and Government Relations

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support Community Engagement work, serve as the main point of contact for HF when engaging new CE opportunities and managing records for Community and Government engagement.
  • Perform community outreach at local events and provide referrals to services; specifically support voter registration weekly at the US Court House to New American Voters.
  • Assist with the coordination of virtual and in-person community workshops or forums.
  • Represent HF at outreach community events; recruit participants for community activities and events.
  • Support the activation of HF's outreach technologies (namely Hustle and Telzio), and lead community outreach in New York State, and in other locations as necessary, through HF's applications.
  • Conduct relevant public policy and related research, monitor state and local government proceedings, and support the preparation of briefing papers, position statements, etc.
  • Cultivate key relationships and partnerships with community leaders and community-based organizations in the Hispanic Federation's network.
  • Assist with other Hispanic Federation events and initiatives.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, and at least one (1) year of related experience working with a nonprofit supporting community outreach and events
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) along with other programs and operating systems required.
  • Excellent communication skills with strong research and writing experience is required.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken Spanish is required, additional language spoken is an asset.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and an attention to detail.
  • Experience with Community Engagement with and direct outreach to Connecticut's diverse communities is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with staff at all levels and with diverse communities.
  • Experience with contract management and file/data management a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
  • Exposure to managing budgets and financial tracking process.
  • Experience presenting and with public speaking is required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing the Hispanic Federation's values, mission, and goals.

Compensation and Benefits:

Position salaryng at $45,000-$48,000 and salary is commensurate with experience. Compensation comes with a robust benefits package with a fully subsidized medical, dental, vision insurance after 2 months, 403(B) retirement plans with a company match after 6 months, and access to flexible spending and pre-tax commuter benefits.

First year employees of the Hispanic Federation receive a PTO package with 15 days designated for vacation, 4 Personal Days, and 8 Sick Days annually.
