POSITION: Coordinator of Community Engagement - Full-Time
SALARY: Starting at $55-60K (35 hours a week)
REPORTS TO: Manager of Sexual Health and Wellness
Mission: Originating as a woman’s volunteer organization, Voces Latinas was founded in 2003 with the mission to reduce the rate of HIV transmission and violence among immigrants Latinas by empowering, educating, and providing leadership trainings enabling them to use their voice and make healthier decisions for themselves and their families. Our reach expanded in 2011 to include all immigrant Latine groups including LGBTQIA+, day laborers, sex workers, undocumented, and other sub-populations often gone invisible yet also impacted by HIV and violence. As a direct services agency, Voces Latinas provides culturally responsive services that address immediate needs including intimate partner and gender-based violence, mental health issues, healthcare access, and HIV/STI prevention. Voces Latinas is unique in how we address the social determinants of health experienced by immigrant Latines including oppression, poverty,
discrimination, threat of deportation, interpersonal violence, sexual violence, and survival sex. Our expertise lies in our identification and understanding of the immigrant experience and the barriers that come along with such an experience.
Voces Latinas serves over 5,000 immigrant Latines each year through its outreach and programs which include: HIV and STI counseling and testing; linkage to care; Spanish HIV educational workshop series; Saturday arts and crafts support group session for isolated immigrant Latinas; supportive case management and individual counseling for Latines who are vulnerable or living with HIV including access to pre-and-post exposure prophylaxis (PrEP and PEP); connection to culturally and linguistically appropriate services; providing Promotores (peer advocates) trainings yearly to become peer leaders; hold public forums and events; provide intimate partner violence prevention and intervention to immigrant Latines; community mobilization project which involves partnering with local businesses. VL also provides support to members of the LGBTQIA+ through HIV prevention services that includes HIV/STI testing and connection to PrEP and PEP.
Voces Latinas seeks a highly skilled Coordinator of Community Engagement to oversee all the outreach coordination and activities focusing on the LGBTQIA+ communities; cisgender and transgender women as well as the general population under the Sexual Health and Wellness program. Outreach activities include but are not limited to the following: HIV counseling and testing, STI counseling and testing, prevention education including motivational interviewing and psychoeducation, linkages to HIV treatment and care, linkages to PrEP and PEP services, and referrals to other services at Voces Latinas. The Coordinator of Community Engagement is expected to collaborate with partnering agencies to develop and participate in community activities and events throughout Queens. This position will be the centralized outreach hub through which all outreach activities will be coordinated within the agency and interdepartmentally. The Coordinator of Community Engagement will be responsible for all mobile van operations including driving the mobile unit. This position requires supervision of outreach staff and peer educators.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
• Communication with program coordinators regularly and stay informed on all program deliverables in the organization.
• Be the main point of contact for collaborations with partnering agencies.
• Coordinate and conduct organizational and street outreach.
• Prepare contingency planning and logistics as it pertains to outreach.
• Collaboratively develop an outreach plan with each program at Voces Latinas and communicate plan to all program leadership.
• Be the lead in street, social media, dating apps, etc.
• Collect and enter data into Voces Latinas internal database system and maintain it updated with Community Engagement activities.
• Produce timely outreach reports, sharing them with each department.
• Meet regularly with supervisor.
• Work closely with communication specialist to promote outreach activities and events.
• Oversight of mobile van which includes all maintenance required, parking arrangements, ensuring all documentation is up-to-date, and obtaining permits for event.
• Responsible for driving mobile van and keeping a schedule of other program staff assigned to drive.
• Manage the outreach calendar on Outlook, including work plan for specific events.
• Responsible for outreach supply inventory and organizing supplies in the office.
• Oversee and conduct HIV counseling and testing on mobile unit (preliminary and confirmatory) and STI screenings ensuring linkage to care for clients with reactive test results and linkage to navigation and accompaniment.
• Provide health literacy and education.
• Keep up to date with local resources available to the community
• Represent Voces Latinas in public and provide meetings and forums in a professional manner to strengthen linkages with other community partners.
• Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Community Healthcare Worker or Promotore, extensive experience in public health, AA/BA preferred
• Sensitivity to and experience with the needs and circumstances of immigrants, people living with HIV or other illnesses, including issues related to domestic violence, diversity, mental health, and marginalized populations.
•Strong knowledge and experience in planning and logistics.
•Confident, knowledgeable about sexual health, especially as it pertains to the LGTBQIA+ communities and female reproductive health (gynecological services such as pap smears, abortion, breast exams, and mammography).
•Must have comprehensive knowledge of biomedical HIV treatments, PrEP, PEP, and effective behavioral interventions.
•Awareness and understanding of social and environmental justice issues, the immigration process, social determinates of health, and complexity of the Public Health System.
•Must be comfortable speaking in public, and facilitation skills for pre-recorded or live social media presentations, conference, meetings, or delegations.
• Comfortable interacting in urban populated settings and an understanding of NYC and Western Queens communities. Familiar with resources in Queens County.
•Willingness to work outside in the field and have direct contact with the community.
•Computer literate and understands how to operate Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva or similar photo and graphic design programs.
•Knowledge in social media apps (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Reddit), trends, video and photo posts, stories, and reels.
•Knowledge of the following reporting systems preferred: ETO, E-share, or AIRS or other reporting systems.
• Commitment to service as a personal value.

• Willing to learn and be flexible.
• Ability to drive Mercedes Sprinter mobile unit and NYS driver’s license required.
• Bilingual (Spanish and English with 80% or more proficiency).
