RESEARCH WRITING NERDS WANTED.

Children's Hospital Los Angeles is looking for a research Communications Specialist to join our team supporting The Saban Research Institute, the research enterprise for #1 children's hospital on the West Coast. Medical/science writing experience highly preferred.
Key responsibilities include reporting, writing and editing content for CHLA's owned and earned digital, print and social channels, including blog posts, press releases, news stories; creating and implementing strategic communications plans in partnership with management and stakeholders; updating research-related content on CHLA.org and InsideCHLA (intranet); coordinating research-related events such as media days, Science Day, trainings and town halls (including supporting tactics and project management); writing/editing content and contributing to planning of print ResearCHLA magazine; collaborating with Public Relations team on pitching strategies and supporting researcher interviews with media and at academic conferences; and collaborating with designers, photographers and videographers to create visual assets to support promotion of CHLA's research enterprise in owned, paid and earned channels.
Purpose Statement/Position Summary: A member of Strategic Content team within Marketing and Communications, the Communications Specialist (Research) works collaboratively with institutional stakeholders (Research Operations, The Saban Research Institute leadership, service line leadership, and others) to co-develop and implement communications strategies and tactics (copy, print, digital, video, etc.) to support enterprise intiatives and key organizational goals.
Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience: Minimum 3 years of paid experience creating and implementing communications and/or media tactics and campaigns in a matrixed organization required. Experience in a research, academic or health care setting preferred.
SKILLS:
• Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Excel), as well; familiarity with project management platforms (such as Adobe Workfront).
• Strong people and project management skills, the ability to define success criteria, identify project risks, opportunities and core stakeholders and effectively adhere to timelines and changing priorities.
• Excellent writing, editing and grammar skills with superior attention to detail and ability to organize complex information into cohesive communications.
• Analytical abilities that demonstrate identifying challenges and developing effective resolutions in a fast-paced, strategic marketing organization.
Education/Licensure/Certification: Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English, organizational development, change management or related discipline required.
Pay Scale Information
$61,360.00-$110,573.00

Final determination of a successful candidate's starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to education and experience within the job or the industry. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
