OverviewReporting to the Corporate Communications Manager, the Communications Specialist is responsible for crafting compelling and effective written content across various channels. This includes writing for marketing materials, internal communications and other promotional content. The Communications Specialist ensures that all written materials maintain a high standard of quality, consistency and alignment with Ascend's brand voice and messaging. This role requires creativity, attention to detail and the ability to adapt writing styles to suit different platforms and target audiences. The Communications Specialist will work closely with the Corporate Communications Manager and collaborate with our creative and design teams to ensure that our written content aligns with our brand voice, marketing strategies and target audience. POSITION WILL BE BASED IN TULLAHOMA OR MURFREESBORO.
Responsibilities- Write clear, concise and persuasive copy for a wide range of marketing materials, including but not limited to marketing advertisements and campaigns, video scripts, social media content, internal communications, email campaigns and newsletters.
- Write search engine optimized (SEO) copy for webpages and blog posts.
- Ensure that all written content adheres to our brand voice, style guidelines and messaging consistency across all communication channels.
- Work closely with the marketing team and subject matter experts to understand campaign objectives and translate them into compelling copy.
- Collaborate with the Business Development team to identify member stories to elevate and amplify the work being done to strengthen our communities.
- Assist with copywriting for speeches, letters, emails and event talking points for senior leadership and other credit union personnel as needed.
- Conduct research to understand target audiences, industry trends and competitive landscapes, leveraging this knowledge to create relevant and engaging content.
- Review and edit copy to ensure accuracy, grammar and adherence to established guidelines. Collaborate with team members to refine and improve content.
- Tailor writing styles and approaches to suit different platforms and target audiences while maintaining a consistent brand voice.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver high-quality content within specified timelines.
- Collaborate with team members to incorporate feedback and revisions into copy to ensure the highest quality end product.
- Complete annual training as required.
- Occasional availability outside of normal business hours required.
- Read all internal publications including HUB and Possibilities.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree English, journalism, marketing, communications or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Work Experience
- 3-5 years Writing and editing in a deadline-driven environment is
- Proven experience as a Copywriter or Communications Specialist, with a strong portfolio showcasing your writing skills is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Familiarity with Associated Press (AP) style guidelines.
- Creative thinker with the ability to generate innovative ideas and concepts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant writing and editing tools.
- Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of SEO and digital marketing best practices is a plus.
- Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, at different levels across the organization.
- Knowledge of task management software; Asana is a major plus.
- Able to think strategically and creatively.
- Able to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Able to balance multiple tasks.
- Able to exercise judgment, initiative and tact in dealing with membership, department supervisors and staff.
- Must be able to make decisions independently in daily responsibilities.
- Ability to be trained in all areas of credit union operations, policies and procedures.
- Able to effectively use office machinery including a PC, telephone, calculator, and multifunction copier.
- Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license.
- Regular and reliable attendance is required.
