Job description

The Executive Office of Elder Affairs (EOEA) is an agency within the Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) Secretariat. EOEA's mission is to serve and support 1.7 million older adults and their caregivers throughout of the Commonwealth.
EOEA is seeking a paid Communications Intern to begin in January 2024 at the start of the Spring '24 semester. The ideal Communications Intern will help with the day-to-day duties of EOEA's Communications Team. This intern will report to the Communications & Outreach Manager and assist in creating eye-catching marketing materials, such as social media posts and program flyers. The Communications Intern will also be involved in any ongoing paid awareness campaigns and will have the opportunity to learn about ad campaigns, target audiences, and report metrics.
Additionally, as part of EOEA's ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), the agency is in the process of ensuring all public-facing materials are available in multiple languages. The Communications Intern will assist in this transition as needed to make the office more accessible for all adults. NOTE: applicants do not need to speak multiple languages, the agency utilizes a translation service.
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
• Attend internal meetings with EOEA's Communications & Outreach Manager and with other units to learn about EOEA's communication needs.
• Create marketing materials with clean and appealing graphics.
• Write brief emails, newsletter items, and social media posts that are geared towards the intended audiences.
• Plan and create social media posts for the EOEA's Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter feeds.
• Assist in updating EOEA's mass.gov webpages to reflect up-to-date information.
• Support the inventory and translation needs of EOEA's public facing documents.
• Other duties, as assigned by EOEA's Communications & Outreach Manager.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will:
• Have knowledge of graphic design fundamentals and can use this knowledge to create marketing materials such as invitations, handouts, and brochures.
• Have experience with Canva and/or Adobe Photoshop.
• Be familiar with social media, particularly Twitter and Facebook.
• Have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, presentation and analytical skills and experience, especially related to demonstrating confidence and executive presence in public settings.
• Be extremely organized and highly motivated.
• Be passionate about diversity, equity, and inclusion and public service.
• Be customer-focused and have the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Have a demonstrated ability to quickly pick up new technology/digital tools.
Special Requirements:
• Undergraduate or graduate student.
