Communications Consultant 2 | Executive Policy Office
Full Time | Non- Permanent
Location: Tumwater, WA
Salary Range: $4,621 - $6,208 Monthly
This position is expected to last up to three months.
The Washington State Department of Corrections is seeking a qualified and self-directed individual to fill the non-permanent role of Communications Consultant 2(CC2) within the Executive Policy Office. The goal of this position is to coordinate, review, plan, organize and ensure consistent correspondence throughout the Department and serve as a point of contact for the community and DOC staff.
In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing outgoing correspondence to ensure agency consistency and thoroughness. The CC2 supports the department's mission of improving public safety by positively changing lives through ensuring customers and constituents have access to information and facilitating consistent, accurate and timely information and resolution through the correspondence phone line or shared email inbox.

Duties

As aCommunications Consultant 2, some of your duties will include:
  • Consulting with agency staff and external stakeholders to determine most appropriate methods and techniques for agency information sharing and response including:
    1. Following processes in place to log all incoming and outgoing correspondence
    2. Reviewing and monitoring agency website for content consistency and accuracy
    3. Working with the agency web team to identify content improvement relating to current stakeholder needs
    4. Assisting the agency in responding to emergent situations by providing information in critical work situations related to social media, press release, and community/internal emergent events
  • Serving as the primary staff member to provide and facilitate the department's correspondence to include:
    1. Consulting with team lead and supervisor on client/customer relations issues from a correspondence unit perspective
    2. Producing statistical information, identifying trends and issues that may advise agency actions and policy updates
    3. Responding directly to written, telephonic or electronic correspondence from constituents, government agencies, legislators, families and various stakeholders, or forwards to appropriate subject matter expert, as appropriate
  • Conducting correspondence customer service training on best practices and agency policies
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
What we need (required qualifications):
  • An Associate's degree

AND
  • Three years of experience providing assistance to clients/customers regarding inquiries, complaints or problems

OR
  • A Bachelor's degree

AND
  • One year of progressive experience providing assistance to clients/customers regarding inquiries, complaints or problems

OR
  • Equivalent experience providing assistance to clients/customers regarding inquiries, complaints or problems will substitute education on a year-for-year basis
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in using effective verbal communication skills
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in using effective written communication skills
  • Intermediate ability to organize, multi-task and prioritize effectively
  • Advanced level of demonstrated positive and professional interpersonal relationship skills
  • Advanced ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
  • Advanced ability to work independently.

Telework Details
This position may be allocated for telework. Work may be performed from your home or another offsite location within the state of Washington using a reliable internet or cellular hotspot service at that time. Employees are expected to perform assigned duties in a safe manner, to take proper care all state-issued equipment, and maintain confidentiality of all information in possession while working offsite. Employees will be required to commute to a Department of Corrections facility or field office as business requires, to potentially include components of the onboarding process. Some offices will have a "drop in" area available, however, a dedicated workspace within a DOC facility will not be provided.

Insurance Benefits

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
