Communications Assistant

Local Union Business Office of IBEW Local 48

IBEW Local 48 is seeking to add an individual to join our Team in our Portland, OR office to act as our Communications Assistant. On a day-to-day basis this employee will work to coordinate the development and design of IBEW Local 48’s promotional materials, intending to spread brand awareness in and around the community. This individual will be able to multi-task, will be detail-oriented and a clear communicator. It is preferred that the individual has basic knowledge of and appreciation for Unions and the Construction Industry.

Primary Functions:

• Design and create marketing content: brochures, promotional materials and online presence.
• Maintain and manage IBEW Local 48’s websites
• Maintain and manage IBEW Local 48’s social media applications
• Maintain and manage IBEW Local 48’s app (Union Reach)
• Responsible for internal and external communications
• Create & cultivate working relationships with the Local’s partners & vendors

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ability to think both analytically and strategically
• Capable of working as part of a team as well as independently
• Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion and foster positive and professional working relationships
• Ability to show strong prioritization and organizational skills with a meticulous attention to detail
• Ability to work under pressure to meet firm deadlines, including managing multiple projects with different deadlines
• Ability to clearly and effectively communicate

Education & Experience:

• 3+ years prior experience working in a Marketing Communications and Design role
• Deep writing background with excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience working within or managing outside vendor relationships
• A history of working well across departments and at all levels (ability to manage up, across and down)
• High school diploma, GED or equivalent
• Proficiency using Adobe Creative Cloud Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Publisher and Excel

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and fax machines. This role will also require travel in and around the Portland Metropolitan and Southwest Washington areas, as well as evening and weekend work
