The Director of Communications and Marketing will need to work in a diverse environment understanding and incorporating multi-unit missions into their communication plan. The ideal candidate should be able to think strategically and work collaboratively while promoting the University of Alaska Anchorage and it's established network. Utilizing their advanced and extensive communication skills, the Director will create, develop, and execute a strategic communications plan. They will be part of a comprehensive team and must have a proven ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Master's degree in a relevant field preferably MFA/MS/MBA degree; minimum five years of progressively responsible Communications and Marketing experience.
Combination of training and experience can be in lieu of education requirements.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Authentic enthusiasm for working within an academic environment and vision for improving the internal and external communications of UAA ISER and UAA BEI.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, technical expertise, and experience writing for multiple mediums.
Advanced experience in public relations, marketing, and communications capacity building.
Proven experience overseeing branding, social media, Google Analytics, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), web accessibility best practices, web content management, and web application testing.
Demonstrated appetite to continuously learn and deploy new strategies as new communication options and tools emerge.
Well-established network with Alaska's business, indigenous, municipal, and statewide government.
Extensive experience and knowledge working in university and government environments. Must fully understand processes and procedures.
Experience supervising and leading a team of part- and full-time employees that may or may not directly report to you.
Proficiency in G-Suite, Google Apps, and MS Office suite of applications.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Minimally four years in a senior or director role providing professional communications support.
12+ years of progressively responsible corporate communications experience, ideally with a combination of Higher Education, municipal or State Government leadership roles.
Combination of training and experience can be in lieu of education requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Proven ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment and interact with various individuals across an organization, including the public.
Ability to lead a culture of accountability and support team member development.
Knowledge of the Alaska and federal political process
Experience facilitating and leading internal and external efforts, including coaching clients through integrating and implementing new communication strategies.
Minimum of three years of prior business ownership experience or a combination of ownership and working within a small business organization.
Position Details:
This is a part-time, term-funded, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 83, based on education and experience.
