SUMMARY: Boys & Girls Clubs of Southcentral Alaska is searching for a Director of Marketing and Strategic Communications. This position will involve working collaboratively with the entire team in order to create a detailed communication plan, including a social media strategy, marketing plan and brand awareness campaign. The communication plan will include elements from all portfolios within the organization and help to increase the brand of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southcentral Alaska. The communication plan, social media strategy, and marketing plan will include both qualitative and quantitative analysis in order to report progress.

  • Ensure proper administrative, staff and board, infrastructure/internal operations are in place to support BGC Alaska’s growth and development.


ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for the execution of a strategic Marketing and communications plan from start to finish. Must understand, develop, and implement a communications plan at the strategic, operational, and tactical level to engage all stakeholders.
  • Research, develop and provide as appropriate talking points for engagement with various entities to staff, public affairs guidance and strategies, and “sales sheets” for BGCAK clubs, programs, and initiatives.
  • Prepare a social media strategy with a calendar of timelines.
  • Work alongside Resource Development team, including board committees, to support its strategy, lead messaging, fulfill reports and recognize donors.
  • Orchestrate marketing plans. This includes assigning responsibilities to community engagement manager, donor relations director, and events manager then overseeing to ensure successful completion.
  • Work collaboratively with BGCAK staff to design and implement an alumni campaign and celebrate the BGCAK alumni.
  • Work collaboratively with BGCAK staff to prepare and implement an annual communications and marketing budget.
  • Maintain a Crisis Communications plan that includes an annual review of procedures. Connect with BGCAK staff to generate content for social media posts, creating appropriate and timely social media posts to compliment Club activities.
  • Lead a team of Marketing and communications professionals. Set goals for performance that align with BGCAK’s strategic plan.
  • Evaluate all communications and marketing activities and recommend strategies for improvement and growth.
  • Track and measure success of all Marketing and communications campaigns.
  • Create and publish various reports, brochures, pamphlets and other literature for specific audiences and markets.
  • Visit Club locations, athletic events, childcare, and special events for photo opportunities.
  • Create a detailed repository for photos, videos and testimonials.
  • Maintain BGCAK website with current and emergency updates.
  • Monitor website traf?c and sources to optimize web presence and search engine optimization.
  • Design creative posts for BGCAK website.
  • Provide support in writing, material development, and media relations for marketing, alumni and fundraising initiatives and campaigns.
  • Work with local, statewide, and industry media to promote Boys & Girls Clubs – Alaska. Prepare subject matter experts for media interactions and be ready to represent the organization on the record.
  • Work alongside Event Manager to create and maintain a calendar of events and promote accordingly.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill or ability required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or related field; 4 years’ related work experience also accepted in lieu of degree
  • Excellent writing, editing and oral communication skills
  • Experience with desk-top publishing software
  • Knowledge in social media, web, photography, and video
  • Skill in managing multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to maintain good relations with peers and general public
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Creativity and high energy level
  • Ability to maintain first aid and CPR certification
  • Must pass a name-based and fingerprint criminal records background check annually
  • Must participate in the Direct Deposit program for payroll disbursement.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, sit, talk, see and hear. This position involves frequent repetitive motion and reaching with hands and arms. Must be able to occasionally lift and carry up to 30 lbs. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role is primarily done in an office setting. The work environment is busy with occasional interruptions occurring, including visits from Club members, parents and staff.


Our organization participates in payroll through direct deposit and all employees are required to maintain a valid bank account during the course of their employment.
