Your Impact:

Hearst Magazines' is looking for an ambitious, detail-oriented Commerce Content Manager to help guide the shopping and product review coverage strategy for our largest editorial brand, Good Housekeeping.

Part of a centralized Content Strategy team that supports the Hearst Magazines Lifestyle Group, this role works closely with GH's edit team to ID and recommend new shopping content opportunities and helps set testing priorities for the Good Housekeeping Institute, the brand's 120-year-old consumer advocacy and product authority extension. 

Daily efforts may range from strategizing how to optimize detailed product reviews and best-of roundups for SEO visibility to diagnosing reader engagement to suggest new story formats to following trends in home, beauty, health/fitness and more that can drive day-of coverage. Additionally, this strategist helps guide and execute Good Housekeeping's newsletter and social programming efforts with a commerce-first POV.

The ideal candidate has previous experience developing affiliate coverage strategies for an editorial brand, understands editorial SEO best practices, and is adept at using data in Google Analytics and other BI tools to track performance, share wins, and find ways to iterate on successes. Superb analytics and planning skills are a must.

What You'll Do:

  • Guide daily and long-term Commerce Content Strategy for Good Housekeeping, working with editorial leadership, staff writers, and the testing teams from the Good Housekeeping Institute
  • Stay on top of commerce and consumer shopping trends to develop ongoing and always-evolving coverage plans that cater to unique verticals (home, beauty, health, etc) and different times of year
  • Use Looker, Google Analytics, SEM Rush, Google Trends and other SEO and BI tools to ID trends, track performance, share wins, perform case studies, and find ways to iterate on successes
  • Partner with other Content Strategy team members and the central affiliate commerce team on forward-planning and real-time coverage during major shopping moments (Prime Day, Black Friday, etc.)
  • Perform ongoing consumer research that helps inform and establish the testing and coverage priorities for the Good Housekeeping Institute team
  • Regularly dig into the data and conduct competitive analysis to find content gaps, ID where we are losing ground on traffic referrals/SEO visibility, diagnose individual story packaging and consumer engagement, and propose new experiments
  • Perform regular audits of individual stories, with a focus on optimizing the content for driving conversions and improved reader engagement 
  • Support and train GH editors on all things commerce strategy and how to effectively optimize all kinds of shopping content for SEO, social promotion, newsletter and other distribution
  • Keep pace with SEO, affiliate marketing, social media and other audience engagement trends and developments

Who You Are:

  • Someone with a minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on audience strategy experience, preferably in the affiliate commerce space and/or SEO. Previous experience working on an editorial brand publishing product reviews and other shopping content is preferred.
  • Strong grasp of audience and reporting tools, such as Excel, Google Analytics, Skimlinks, and Looker, with experience analyzing data, interpreting results, and translating them into editorial actions and coverage plans.
  • A detail-oriented, independent thinker who passionate about self-directed research
  • Ability to foster partnerships and establish buy-in with multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced publishing environment.

The base salary for this role is between $74,000 and $87,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
