GENERAL DUTIES
Performs highly-skilled laboratory functions and other technical duties in support of coursework.
- Sets up, maintains, and organizes student laboratories
- Assists students with setting up experiments and other learning exercises, and with the use of equipment and materials
- Maintains appropriate safety and hygiene standards

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
- Specific duties: Prepare teaching labs for Bio 11 Introduction to College Biology, Bio 105 General Biology: Physiology and Cell biology, Bio 106 General Biology: Life-Forms and Ecosystems, Bio 212 Higher Plants, Bio 220 Invertebrate Zoology, Bio 226 Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy, Bio 310 Lower Plants, Bio 340 General Ecology Bio 723 Ornithology, Bio 385 Natural History of NY and all Special Topics in Biology field courses in the series Bio 385 and Bio 386 , and other courses as assigned. Assisting in the preparation of materials for Bio 201 General Microbiology.
- Prepare all materials needed for lab experiments.
- Assist instructors in the lab and during field trips as needed.
- Ensure that all lab instructors and students are properly trained on the use of laboratory equipment.
- Inventory supplies and equipment.
- Maintain equipment.
- Request quotes for supplies needed.
- Orders supplies as needed.
- Supervise and train students in the work /study program .
- Train instructors in the use of lab and audiovisual equipment.
- Inventory chemicals and equipment for Colwin Hall and Science Building.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma with a minimum of four years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology
- At least 4 years of experience in a college environment setting up diverse teaching labs and helping with student’s experiments in the following areas: General Biology, Microbiology, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Developmental Biology, Invertebrate Zoology, Comparative Anatomy, Anatomy and Physiology, and Ecology.
- Experience dissecting multiple invertebrates and vertebrate organisms and organs
- Experience in the use of aseptic techniques and pipetting
- Experience in the preparation of microbiological growth media
- Experience in culturing bacteria safely and long-term maintenance of bacterial cultures
- Experience in setting up and maintaining marine and freshwater aquaria
- Experience in the use, and basic maintenance and repair of compound light microscopes and dissecting microscopes.
- Smartboard Technology knowledge and troubleshooting experience
- Extensive knowledge in Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook and LMS technology
- Experience requesting quotes, ordering and receiving of supplies
- NYCFD C-14 Certificate holder
COMPENSATION
Salary Range: $64,086 - $67,707
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
