Corteva Agriscience is seeking a Biologist to conduct and organize routine bioassays. This position is aligned with our Crop Protection Insecticide and Seed Applied Biology Group based at our research and development facility in Indianapolis, IN. You will be responsible for efficiently managing day-to-day laboratory activities including: coordinating and scheduling resources, preparing and grading bioassays, capturing data, training contract staff, and managing laboratory safety. The candidate will contribute to current projects and perform innovative research on pests of row crops in an effort to identify and advance novel synthetic and biological crop protection technologies into the discovery and development pipeline. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with strong organizational skills for this exciting opportunity in a dynamic R&D environment. You must be able to excel in a team environment, network across research groups, and clearly communicate to stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical input, set-up and assess trials, record data, conduct data analysis, and deliver results aligned with CPD&D product goals
  • Assist with designing, developing, and conducting innovative assays for soil and foliar insect pests
  • Coordinate and schedule laboratory resources to maintain an efficient screening process
  • Schedule the use and maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Train and onboard contract research staff
  • Oversee daily tasks scheduled for contract research staff
  • Develop and implement safety practices to ensure safety in the work environment
  • Maintain compliance with requirements for plant, insect, and pathogen handling and disposal
  • Data collection, management, and quality assurance

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Prior entomology experience and/or agronomy experience either through education or 2+ years of direct applicable experience
  • Experience conducting laboratory bioassays in a R&D setting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills, detail-orientation, and a desire to work in a dynamic laboratory environment
  • Experience with scientific record keeping and familiarity with common software applications
  • The ability to occasionally lift and move heavy objects (25-50 lbs)

Preferred:

  • B.A. or B.S. in Biological Sciences, or a related area
  • Familiarity with lab equipment, automation, high throughput screening assays
  • Experience with bioassay development and implementation
  • Experience designing and conducting experiments involving insects in a lab and/or greenhouse environment
  • Knowledge or experience with crop protection products
  • Basic knowledge of seed treatment technologies
  • Experience working with a broad range of insects
