Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) - a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York - seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission aligned College Coordinator with our High School After-School Program.
The College Coordinator will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children's Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.
We are currently seeking a College Counselor who under the supervision of the CSO College Readiness Manager, the College Counselor will implement College Readiness activities and experiences in grades 9-12. The College Counselor will be responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive college program for college-bound scholars. The plan will be to expand this work to grades K-12 in the future. These activities can include exposure activities, coordinating college visits, the college application process, selecting schools of best fit, and helping students/ families through the financial aid process. The College Counselor serves as a support system to ensure that scholars graduate from High School, explore college opportunities, and find their career path. The ideal candidate will have experience either in High School or college counseling and a desire to work closely with students.

Minimum Qualifications
- A commitment to the mission and programs of HCZ
- Bachelor's degree in education, Counseling, or related social services field required.

- Proactive problem solver that demonstrates initiative and the ability to work individually and, in a team setting when necessary

What You'll Do
- Develop and manage a college preparation component that includes college awareness; college financial aid application process; college matching, college tours/visitation; partnerships with college advisors and college board; partnerships with alternative/trade schools; internship opportunities; and other interactive programs
- Maintain frequent and regular contact with students to monitor progress and to troubleshoot academic, financial, and socio-emotional issues
- Provide support with transition from High School to CSO
- Collaborate with HCZ Career Services to ensure students are engaging and gaining career and college awareness and exposures
- Correspond regularly with stakeholders to follow up on past students
- Recruit, retain, and revitalize High School students to participate in the program
- Meet withStudent Advocates, Tutors, and Aides through weekly supervisions and component meetings
- Conduct presentations and outreach to High Schools for the development of the program
- Provide weekly component updates and reports
- Develop effective working relationships with the teachers and parents of the students participating in the program
- Review staff case, tutoring notes, attendance sheets, and notes for the system to maintain accuracy with attendance and grouping
- Schedule regular caregiver/participant meetings and events to increase communication with families
- Design and implement creative college focused programming that addresses the needs of the participants in the program (i.e., trips, workshops, guest speakers, etc.)
