This position is responsible for investigating complaints regarding violations of the Village's Code of Ordinances and for enforcing the Village's Code. Tasks related to conducting field inspections, managing code compliance cases and educating the public and contractors about the Village's Code are performed independently.

  • Provide excellent customer service to educate residents and contractors within the Village about the Village's Code of Ordinances and other policies and regulations.
  • Work patiently with individuals who have little or no prior knowledge of the requirements of the Village's Code.
  • Issue: stop work orders for unpermitted construction-related activity, citations, notices of violation, notices of hearing and notices of compliance in accordance with the Village's Code Compliance Ordinances and Land Development Regulations.
  • Inspect, monitor and evaluate complaints and violations to determine level of compliance or non-compliance with prescribed regulations, guidelines and codes.
  • Respond promptly to citizen complaints and requests for information or questions.
  • Conduct re-inspections as scheduled to achieve and maintain credibility.
  • Collect information and enters information into code compliance case management software, including: narratives, photos, confirmation of property ownership and applicable code violation information.
  • Present cases to the Code Compliance Hearing Officer / Special Magistrate.
  • Work with the Village Attorney's Office to coordinate hearings and ensure proper due process.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required. AA or Bachelor's in Criminal Justice, Legal Studies or any subject similar preferred.
  • Three (3) years' experience in code compliance or a closely related field is required. Experience in environmental regulation and enforcement is preferred. A combination of comparable education and experience will be considered.
  • Ability to obtain Florida Association of Code Enforcement (FACE) Level I Certification within six (6) months of hire date is required. Possession of FACE Level I Certification is preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's license. A Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check will be made to determine acceptance of past driving record.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills and ability to effectively interact with the public, with coworkers and with employees of other governmental agencies in a courteous, tactful and impartial manner are required.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point) and aptitude to learn and work with CityView software applications are required.

Physical Demands:
Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (20 pounds). Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Work Environment:
Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, bright/dim light, machinery, traffic hazards, toxic agents, violence, disease, pathogenic substances, or animal attacks.
