Code Enforcement Officers enforce Manatee County codes, ordinances and statutes to protect consumers, property values, environmentally-sensitive lands, infrastructure and property. Code Enforcement operates in 11 zones with an officer in each one.
Code Enforcement Officer I - An officer's goal is toprotect and improve the quality of life of Manatee County citizens by enforcing the Manatee County Land Development Code, County Code of Ordinances, and applicable State Statutes. Our officers investigate alleged code violations involving unlicensed contractors, property maintenance issues, and abandoned or improperly parked vehicles, as well as other matters under the jurisdiction of the Code Enforcement Division. They collaborate with residents, property owners and other stakeholders to gain voluntary compliance. When voluntary compliance cannot be obtained Code Enforcement Officers will issue citations and testify in court. Officers are expected to learn their assigned area and become engaged in community meetings (i.e. HOA) and other events.
Code Enforcement Officer II- Applies working knowledge of County codes, ordinances, and enforcement procedures; enforces same impartially through professional firmness and tact. Effectively investigates violations of codes for which the department has enforcement responsibilities; coordinates with other investigative staff documentation of all evidence needed to support enforcement action. Communicates with the public using discretion and diplomacy to facilitate voluntary corrections of violations. Through a systematic method, obtains evidence and prepares summary reports necessary for the presentation of all facts associated with alleged violations.

Minimum Qualifications
Code Enforcement Officer I:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1 or more years of work in Code Enforcement, the enforcement of laws, planning and zoning, building construction or similar field.
- Level I certification from the Florida Association of Code Enforcement (FACE) or obtain certification within one year of hire.
- A comparable combination of education, training, and work experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position, may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
- Valid Florida driver's license.
Code Enforcement Officer II:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent certificate of competency.
- Minimum of three (3) years' experience in Code Enforcement, planning, zoning, construction management, architecture, engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years' experience as a Level I Code Enforcement Officer.
- Level I and II certifications from the Florida Association of Code Enforcement (F.A.C.E.)
- Valid Florida driver's license.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
