The Clinical Research Assistant will work directly with Dr. Whitney, an MCC physician and patient-centered translational researcher, and with Dr. DiGianni, Research Operations Manager for the Raby Lab and the Pulmonary Division, who have an established collaboration on several projects. The projects will involve interactions with patients and families in the inpatient (including ICU) and outpatient settings. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for an individual who is motivated to work in an innovative academic medical center on cutting edge pediatric critical care and pulmonary research, with an interest in clinical/translational research, omics methods, and project management.
- Assist with all aspects of two protocols: 1) the BREATHE study, an ICU-based protocol focused on acute respiratory failure, and 2) the Pulmonary Biobank Initiative (PBI), a registry for patients with all pulmonary diseases. Duties will include screening patients to determine study eligibility, conducting medical record chart review, and conducting in-person and/or virtual recruitment and consent with patients and families
- Collect and enter patient survey data either in-person or virtually
- Maintain REDCap study databases, including the BREATHE and PBI registries
- Maintain regulatory requirements, including preparing amendments and continuing reviews for IRB submissions. Maintain and organize study regulatory binders on an ongoing basis.
- Communicate with families and patients receiving care in the ICU and Pulmonary division regarding protocol eligibility and ongoing and emerging research projects
- Assist with the design of new programs, including assisting with the writing and development of new Institutional Review Board protocols, databased, and standard operating procedures
- Collaborate and closely partner with a multi-disciplinary research team that includes ICU and pulmonary clinicians and faculty, Research Assistants, data managers, and bioinformaticians
- Provide other project support, as requested by the Principal Investigator, Research Operations Manager or study PI/Division Chief
- Bachelor’s degree required
- At least one prior year of research experience preferred
- Extremely mature and dependable, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to operate independently with little supervision
- Detail oriented with excellent organizational, communication, problem-solving and time management skills
- Comfortable with pediatric patients and their families in a clinic setting or via phone, and having the solid ability to convey protocol eligibility information in a clear and concise manner
- REDCap and IRB experience (submitting amendments and continuing reviews) preferred
- Minimum of a 2 year commitment required
