The Clinical Research Assistant will work closely with multiple pediatric otolaryngologists, with their research primarily focusing on laryngeal pathologies and voice abnormalities in the pediatric population. They may also be responsible for other projects focusing on a variety of topics, including simulation or global health in relation to pediatric otolaryngology. This position offers applicants significant education on the research process, database creation and management, statistics, and manuscript writing. It likewise offers opportunities to collaborate with a diverse group of medical professionals and to attend medical conferences within the department and nationally.
An interest in Otolaryngology/Voice Pathology is preferred for this role.
This Clinical Research Assistant I will be responsible for:
- Consent and recruit patients for research studies through personal interviews and written communications with patients/families.
- Provide details to families with detailed background information regarding studies communicate all policies and procedures, and respond to all inquiries.
- Evaluate the suitability of prospective study candidates and make selections based on clinical knowledge of each study.
- Serve as liaison to the families/patients in the research studies, conducted on-site and off-site, guiding and advising them throughout each study phase.
- Coordinate follow-up visits as necessary.
- Act as a resource to study participants, addressing their concerns.
- Troubleshoot the resolution of any issues that may arise throughout the study.
- Coordinate and prepares the necessary documentation for Institutional Review Board IRB and Committee on Clinical Investigations CCI submissions, together with the Private Investigator of the study.
- Create and prepares data collection statistical reports and analytical summaries for distribution to the study research team for review and analysis.
- Write articles and summary papers of studies for submission to medical journals, as may be necessary/requested. Participate in the training of newly hired research study assistants, as required.
- Coordinate activities between the hospital and research laboratories to ensure correct testing/processing and send out instructions specific to the study.
- Communicate project policies and procedures to personnel.
- Monitor and reviews data collection and data entry, and informed consent procedures ensuring consistency of application for each study.
- Perform other miscellaneous administrative duties as assigned or required.
In order to qualify you must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM or Psychology
- Strong interest in Otolaryngology/Voice Pathology
- Analytical skills to gather and interpret data in which the information or problems are moderate to complex.
- Well-developed communication skills to provide critical information to patients, effectively deal with conflicting views or issues, and have the ability to appropriate fair solutions.
- Advanced writing skills.
