Program Description

Felton Institute’s Early Psychosis award winning program (re)MIND® (formerly PREP) was originally developed in partnership with the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). Felton’s (re)MIND® is an early psychosis coordinated specialty care model for early detection and treatment of schizophrenia spectrum disorders. (re)MIND® core evidence-based practices include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp), Strength‐Based Care Management, Multi‐family Group Therapy, Peer Support, Algorithm-Based Medication Management and Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model of supported education and employment. The (re)MIND® model has two additional components, Felton BEAM and BEAM UP, for individuals diagnosed with bipolar or mood disorders with psychosis and for individuals at clinical high risk of developing psychosis, respectively. Funded through partnerships with county behavioral health departments, the Felton Early Psychosis Division operates outpatient coordinated specialty care for early psychosis programs in San Francisco, Alameda, San Mateo, Monterey, and Marin, and offers excellent training and workforce development.

Position Overview

The Clinical Program Manager is responsible for the overall program and clinical operations of the Felton Early Psychosis program site, monitoring client services, maintaining compliance with quality assurance standards and managing personnel. Direct service provision and local travel between agency sites is expected. This position reports to the Division Director (or as assigned by Division Director).

Specific Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Responsible for the site’s clinical operations, including staff productivity, maintenance of quality assurance standards, adherence to documentation requirements, and data collection for measured outcomes.
  • Ensure contract compliance with all funders including submitting required progress reports.
  • Responsible for personnel management including recruitment, onboarding, training, regular supervision meetings, performance evaluations and compliance with agency requirements and regulations.
  • Manage flow of referrals, intakes, and caseloads.
  • Carry an assigned caseload, conduct assessments, diagnostic evaluations, develop treatment plans and provide individual and/or group therapeutic services.
  • Monitor staff performance in relation to client engagement, problem-solve issues, and take timely action to promote accountability for self and others.
  • Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures, evaluation and research protocols and evidence-based practices fidelity measures.
  • Provide individual and/or group supervision to staff accruing clinical experience and hours for professional licensure.
  • Implement Felton Early Psychosis model in accordance with fidelity measures and strategic development plans.
  • Participate in the delivery of training and/or program presentations.
  • Lead program’s outreach campaign and facilitate community involvement and/or advocacy.
  • Contribute to all assigned committees and meetings (leadership meetings, steering committee, operations meetings, etc.) and represent Felton’s program in stakeholder, county, and other assigned meetings.
  • Attend and participate in all assigned trainings for professional, program, and agency development.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree (or higher) in Social Sciences, Psychology, Counseling Psychology or related field AND current California State Licensure. Two years post licensure and ability to provide clinical supervision to BBS registered interns preferred.
  • Three years of supervisory experience in community mental health programs OR one year of supervisory experience in early psychosis program may substitute for three years of supervisory experience.
  • Five years of experience providing mental health services to youth or young adults with serious mental health challenges OR three years of direct service experience in early psychosis program may substitute for five years of direct service.
  • Personal or family experience of overcoming mental health challenges highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and ability to type 45 WPM.
  • Valid California Drivers’ License with an excellent driving record.

Competencies

  • Knowledge of County, State and Federal requirements for documentation and reporting, including MediCal/MediCare standards, CPT codes, etc.
  • Knowledge of respective county behavioral health department, community resources, and EHR system.
  • Exceptional management skills and ability to coach staff to effectively engage clients and family members.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively.
  • Demonstrated experience as a team player with a welcoming attitude
  • Adaptable, open to change, and able to tolerate ambiguity.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with and respect differences of opinion, beliefs, culture, appearances and ways of life
  • Ability to lead a culturally diverse multidisciplinary team.
  • Good negotiation, problem-solving, and political savvy skills.
  • Knowledge of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and treatment of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder preferred. CBT for Psychosis (CBTp) training is a plus.
  • Bilingual/Bicultural and fluent in Spanish or Asian languages preferred, but not required

Physical Requirements, Use of Equipment, and Work Environment:

The position requires sitting at a desk approximately 60% of the time, with standing 20% and walking or driving 20% of the time. Ability to perform routine bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching. Lifting may be required occasionally of no more than 20 lbs at a time. Approximately 60% of the time the employee uses a computer, keyboard, mouse, telephone, mobile phone, fax machine, copier, and video conferencing equipment.
