Job description

The Johns Hopkins Hospital, a 1,051 bed academic medical center, and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine are the major components of the Johns Hopkins Health System, a vertically integrated, multi-institutional system for medical services delivery. The Department of Pharmacy, consistent with the mission of Johns Hopkins Medicine, places a priority on teaching, research and patient care. At Johns Hopkins Hospital, the department is responsible for providing acute care pharmacy services for a diverse population of medical and surgical patients, with additional services provided within the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center and affiliated clinics. Within the department, there are 45 acute care and primary care clinical pharmacy specialists as well as 31 general and specialized pharmacy residents.
Reports to the Division Director of Pharmacy for the assigned area. Responsible for working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary health care team to promote wellness, maintain current health, and/or intervene in acute or chronic illness. Promotes the safe and effective use of medications by consulting with other health care professionals concerning problems and instructs patients and families on their medications. Provides education to patients, students, residents, pharmacists, and other healthcare practitioners.
This position will have a primary clinical area of focus in multiple Surgery step-down units working with a variety of surgery teams. This role will actively participate in rounds on one of those units. They will provide medication order review and verification for about 5 hours each day for their assigned surgery units. They will also provide cross-coverage for other Clinical Pharmacists within additional patient care areas when needed.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited College of Pharmacy resulting in Pharm D. or BS degree
  • Completion of an ASHP accredited PGY-1 residency program or minimum three years of clinical health-system experience
  • Current licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Maryland required
  • Board Certification through the Board of Pharmacy Specialties or a certification deemed appropriate for the practitioner's practice setting by Division Director is required within 2 years of start date.
  • Hospital and departmental education requirements completed within 90 days of hire.
  • ACLS and/or PALS certification is desired.
