This is a clinical / management position. The Clinical Nurse Administrator is directly responsible on a 24-hour basis for the dialysis nursing function of the facility, its patients, and staff. Develops policies and procedures, facility goals and objectives, and programs related to clinical practices in dialysis and assumes their implementation. As the recognized authority for clinical expertise in nursing care practices of the dialysis patient, stimulates and guide the dialysis staff to render the highest quality of patient care and as such. Is responsible for the evaluation of the dialysis facility staff in the way reasonable comprehensive care for all patients is given.
The Clinical Nurse Administrator supports educational programs within an environment, which lends itself to teaching, learning and research through in-service education programs, and regular dialysis conferences for the patient care staff. Also, supports both the medical staff and administration through the application of sound management practices. The Clinical Nurse Administrator is responsible for the strategic planning, clinical management, financial and quality management on the unit.
Representative Functions:
- Appointment and allocation of sufficient and adequately trained staff.
- Fiscal Operations.
- Maintain relationship with network and timely communication.
- Assures adequate, functional equipment and supplies.
- Ensures facility repairs and proper conditions.
- Supports an effective QAPI Program by providing sufficient resources and time.
- Communicates with the Governing Body and Medical Director.
- Responds to complaints and grievances by staff and patients.
- Acts independently in resolving issues concerning questions of nursing practice, according to the recognized standards of nursing practice, state and federal regulations, and renal practice standards.
- Makes nursing rounds to assess, implement and evaluate the delivery of patient care in the facility.
- Meets with physicians and other members of the health care team to evaluate patient care and health teaching
- Review patient plans of care and physicians orders and evaluates them for effectiveness, interprets them to staff, and assigns members of staff to implement them.
- Maintains patient records. Assures that patient records, treatments plans, and overall schedules are properly maintained within the facility. Directs the staff in developing and maintaining patient plans of care.
- Plans and implements, a program of orientation and training for all new dialysis patients and staff.
- Communicate policies and procedures to staff by way of manuals and in-service education.
- Counsels, disciplines, terminates staff as needed
- Assures blood work for shipment is prepared and handled appropriately by staff
- Develops/coordinates in-service education programs and regular dialysis conferences for patient care staff.
- Sets performance standards for facility patient care staff and evaluate personnel periodically.
- Participates in the interview and hiring process. Makes recommendations to the administrator on personnel to be hired.
- Coordinates patient scheduling and staff work assignments.
- Handles staff and patient complaints and grievances. Recommends appropriate corrective and disciplinary measures, when indicated. Consults with, and seeks assistance from, the Administrator on resolution of major issues of conflict. The Clinical Nurse Administrator is a member of the grievance committee.
- Assists in coordinating patient referrals and transfers to and from other dialysis services or health agencies.
- Assumes primary dialysis nurse responsibilities and direct patient care when indicated.
