- Provides patient education as needed for the scheduled test/procedures.
- Prepares the exam and treatment rooms, including instrument, supplies and protective devices for exam and testing. Maintains and stocks supplies. Cleans and sterilizes instruments in accordance with infection control and manufacturer recommendations.
- Effectively documents within the electronic health record.
- Completes discharge of patient from exam room. This may include written instructions, scheduling a follow-up appointment, providing referral information or scheduling patients for testing procedures and providing instructions.
- Provides assistance with diagnostic procedures and treatments as directed by the provider. This includes obtaining specimens, labeling and disposition to the laboratory and explaining diagnostic procedures to patient as needed.
- Rooms and prepares patient for examination. This includes histories, vitals, reason for visit, presenting symptoms and current medication list.
- Provides patient education as needed for the scheduled test/procedures.
- Meets requirements for handling and disposing of bio-hazardous waste.
- Collects and enters quality data into EHR
- Processes medication requests/changes/refills per established protocols. This includes having knowledge of medications, including basic dosages, side effects and interactions.
- Manages phone calls to patients regarding test/lab results and provides appropriate instruction for treatment, as directed by the provider.
- Supports an assigned provider’s practice and acts as a liaison between the provider and his/her patients. Assists provider to remain on schedule with appointments.
- Receives, greets, and triages patients in person or on telephone. Schedules appointments, answers questions and/or determines the need for provider intervention.
- Provide patient education on oncologic conditions.
- Communicate test results and medication changes to patients.
- Direct other clinical staff as assigned to assure quality care and efficient patient flow.
- Provide clinical scribe coverage as needed.
- Assist with management of department work queue.
- Facilitates price estimates for patients as needed.
- Assist with office procedures [Pelvic exams, biopsies, and colposcopy.
- Schedule operating room procedure as directed (coordinating with OR, Anesthesia and assisting providers as directed).
- Facilitates the management of provider surgery schedule.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, computer skills, organization, time management, attention to detail and the ability to remain poised and efficient in a fast-paced environment.
- Previous experience in a medical office setting preferred.
- Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa or compact state required.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
- Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse & Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required. Employee must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date.
- Medium: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on occasional basis to assist with patient transfers.
- All lifting over 50 lbs. should be performed with team lifts.
- Able to push and pull of up to 25 lbs. of horizontal force on occasional basis and push and pull up to 40 lbs. of horizontal force on rare basis.
- Ability to administer CPR.
