Job Description:
The State University of New York (SUNY) System Administration, located in Albany, New York, currently has an opening for a part-time Cleaner in Plaza Operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Frequently communicate with supervisor to report on work progress reporting any building problems or damage that needs further attention.
- Washes floors, corridors, stairs and stairwells, walls, partitions, windows from the inside or outside of buildings using mops, brushes, detergents, buffers, floor scrubbers, and other cleaning implements.
- Strips and waxes floors; vacuums and shampoos carpets; and dusts assigned areas using manual or mechanical equipment.
- Cleans and scrubs all areas of lavatories, locker rooms, such as sinks, urinals, toilets, showers, shower walls and drains, tile floors, and locker room common areas.
- Cleans and scrubs all areas of break rooms, such as refrigerators, microwaves, counter tops and table surfaces and trash cans.
- Cleans and polishes furniture, metal fixtures, and equipment.
- Dust and polish all wood railings, wood/wall moldings, and fireplace mantels.
- Dusts assigned areas and rooms.
- Removes hazardous articles on floors, furniture, and equipment and places them in designated receptacles or in appropriate places.
- Moves furniture and equipment in connection with cleaning activities, sets up for meetings or special events.
- Empties trash, recyclables, and waste, in accordance with cleaning schedule.
- Assembles cleaning cart to conform to assigned cleaning duties, mixes and properly dilutes cleaning solutions in accordance with manufacturer directions.
- Checks supplies and equipment functioning, and notifies supervisor of low supply levels, equipment malfunction, and building maintenance issues noted during cleaning.
- Removes hazardous articles on floors, furniture, and equipment and places them in designated receptacles or in appropriate places.
- May be assigned to remove snow and salt walkways, clean sidewalks, yards, and drives.

Qualifications:
Applicant must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor. Ability to stand, stoop, bend and stretch for long periods of time. Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds. Working knowledge of the properties of various cleaning substances. Ability to use various cleaning equipment and products. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
