What We Do.
Founded as a special purpose unit of government created by the Minnesota Legislature in 1971 to address serious environmental pollution problems in the lower St. Louis River Basin, WLSSD provides wastewater and solid waste services and oversight for a 530 square mile region around Duluth, Minnesota.

WLSSD is seeking a Senior Facilities Boiler Operator to join our team. The qualified candidate will have a post-secondary degree in building systems technologies or related field from an accredited college and three (3) years related experience in a commercial or industrial facilities -or- an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Registration as a First-Class Boiler Engineer License-Class C (License 1-C) in the state of Minnesota is required. Possess Underground Storage Tank Operator Class C, or ability to obtain. Possess a valid driver's license.
The Senior Facilities Boiler Operator is responsible for supporting the daily operation of our heating production and combined heat and power facilities, as well as maintaining the facility and grounds. You will be responsible for operating facility equipment, coordination of maintenance, planning, scheduling, and assigning personnel.
The ideal Senior Facilities Boiler Operator will have knowledge of specific theories and practices of low-pressure boiler heating and distribution systems and combined heat and power systems. Knowledge of the air emissions permit requirements, underground storage tank and storm water compliance requirements and the ability to recognize and respond to conditions which may lead to non-compliance. The ability to locate, troubleshoot and repair minor operational equipment deficiencies, including mechanical, electrical and instrumentation systems is also key in this role.
